Pray for my son

by nalla, Mar 16, 2007 12:00AM
As some of you know, my son was born with Spina bifida and hydrocephalus. He has a shunt in to drain the fluid from his brain. Today we took him in to get a CT because he isn't acting right, and it turns out that the shunt has malfunctioned....the fluid is building back into his brain and if this isn't taken care of there will be non reversable brain damage. They are going to have to go back in there and replace the shunt. It's a pretty easy surgery, but still brain surgery. It's friday and I can't get ahold of this neuro-surgen, so I had to call the hospital and am waiting for them to call me back and let me know what the next step will be. What happend last time is they had us go strait to the hospital for emergancy surgery.
So please pray for Nathan and that everything will be ok....that he makes it through the surgery with no complications and there has been no brain damage yet.

jsut wanted to let you know that we are headed up to the hospital right now, he may need the surgery tonight.if not tonight then in the morning. I'm bringing my computer wth me, so I will keep you updated.
I'm scared! He is 20 months and has had 5 surgeries so far and it never gets easier! If anything, it gets harder cause every single min I'm with him I love him more than I did!

And to you flower, how dare you!!!!! Don't you dare EVER speak of my son again. If I had the time, I would give you a mouthfull right now!!!
You are lucky that we don't live in the same town! I hope I never lay eyes on you!

My heart goes out to you and I know exactly what you are going through; my son has hydrocephalus and cerebral palsy and has a shunt too. I know just how scary it is to see our little ones go off for surgery; we just have to put all our faith in the fantastic neurosurgeons who do this teffiric work on our children. It sounds like you acted very quickly and I am surgery within the next 24 hours will ensure his shunt is fixed before the pressure can cause any damage. I will be thinking of you and will check in tomorrow to see how it went. Best wishes Jo.

You and your famiy are in my prayers.  I know two young men with shunts.  One has sb and is now 24.  He walks with sticks and uses a wheelchair sometimes.  He has had that replacement many times.  Scary each time I know.

I don't know Nathan's sb outlook, but Jeff is a wonderful young man, talented and loving.  He takes vacation every summer to volunteer at a kids' camp.  I have known him since he was born and he continues to amaze me with his positive attitude and his never quit attitude.

Please update us.
