Question about insulin

Question about insulin

I have to go in tomorrow after my ultrasound to see the diabetic nurse so that she can go over all the info that comes with being on insulin. The internist has decided that I need to be on a low dose of insulin, because my blood sugar levels have started to creep up. I am 36 weeks today.

Anyone have any info or experience with being on insulin??

I have been testing 4 times a day since I found out. I had GD with my son but we managed to control it with diet. My sugars are backwards to the "norm". Mine are usually pretty good in the morning (fasting) but they get higher during the day. My OB wants me delivered by 38-39 weeks. I have an appt with him next week (Wednesday), he is hoping that I am starting to dilate because he wants to break my water and get things started. I was checked yesterday by my fmaily dr and he said that I was dilated a fingertip. So unless something drastic happens, I can't see my being dilated enough next week to have my water broken.

I have an ultrasound today to see how big this baby is. My son was 9lbs 10oz. Then after my ultrasound I have to go and get all the info and stuff on giving myself an injection of insulin. I have no idea my dose or how often. I THEN have to go to L&D to be monitored, I am not exactly sure why but my OB said that he wants me to go, so I am going to go :).

I don't think I have any other questions right now but I might after I go to the clinic.

Thank you for replying to me!

Have you been testing your blood sugars 4 times a day since you were told you had gd? We noticed a pattern that my sugars could be controlled through diet except they were super high in the morning on a fast. Some say this is typical but as a result, I had to inject myself with insulin before bed everynight. The very 1st time was so scary but I was totally fine after that. I was told I had GD at 28 weeks after failing the 3 hours and started with the insuline at about 32 weeks. I also had a few complications because of the GD and my baby was born a couple weeks early via induction. Is there anything more specific that you want to know? I'll be happy to answer.

Good luck. I used the pen which is much better to inject with than a regular needle. Make sure you get that.

Wow, you have big babies! My dd was 2 weeks late and only 7 lbs 13 oz and this dd was 3 weeks early and 6 lbs 3 oz.
