TMI I know...but I have to ask

OK, I know that this question might be TMI for some of you but I have to ask. How common are yeast infection during pregnancy? I am currently almost 11 weeks along and I have this white discharge and am extremely itchy down there. I just finished a prescription for augmentin for a urinary tract infection. Could that have turned into a yeast infection? I just don't know what to think. I go to the doctors tomorrow but I wanted to hear what you all thought first. You all have answered so many of my questions and I thought I would start with you all. Please help! Also what can I use to make the itching stop. It is so irritating. I don't think I have ever had a yeast infection that was this bad.

Definitely sounds like a yeast infection.  I get one everytime I take an antibiotic that my doc calls in a diflucan at the same time -- the antibiotic kills the good bacteria that keep the yeast bacteria in check and when they're not there, the yeast goes uncontrolled.

Haven't had one during pregnancy, but would definitely check with doc about what is okay to take.

LOL!!

Yup, I just got off meds for a yeast infection. They are VERY common in pregnancy even without you taking antibiotics. My OB asked me if I wanted cream or pills. I told him pills and he put me on diflucan. I dunno what they will put you on since you are in first trimester, but don't worry I'm sure there are meds out there that will be fine for it.

Hi It sounds like a yeast infection to me--probably from the antibiotic you were taking for the uti. I think you can use over the counter treatments while you are pregnant but I would call the dr just to be sure.

Hi there , i had a yeast infection at 14 weeks , it was exactly like you explained . My midwife told me yeast infections are EXTREMELY common in pregnancy due to increased levels of bacteria and hormone levels . And like the above poster says .....antibiotics can also contribute to an increase in yeast . I was told to use either Monosat insert (pills that you insert inside at night time ) or canesten cream , i was offered the oral pills also but she said at my stage it would be better to use the inserts. I had a 7 day course and it began to clear in 3 days !!! After the 7 it was gone completely . She said there is a good chance it would reoccur though , just due to your hormone levels and things .But i have been ok so far (fingers crossed!) and im 23 weeks .  I would run anything that you buy or use by your doctor though , just to be sure , i hope this works for you cos i know it can be miserable !!!!! Take care xx

Just goy my prescription too, dont know which med its for since i havent filled yet, but i do know that YI is very common during pregnancy.  my doctor said last week, that yeast is always in there, but due to our hormones changing during pregnancy, the levels of yeast are unbalanced, thats why its so much easier to get an infection during pregnancy.

My doc wouldnt prescribe pills though.

Sounds like a yeast infection, I got one at the beginning of my pregnancy, my dr said to take the 3 day monistat, and it worked, cleared it up. .. I only got one once during the pregnancy, but I guess it's pretty common.

the next time you're on antibiotics, you should consider taking acidophilus pills. in fact, if you're prone to yeast infections, you can take them daily. it's the same exact bacteria found in yogurt- just more convenient and concentrated. both yeast and bacteria live inside you, competing for space, and when you take an antibiotic, the good bacteria are killed off, leaving room for the yeast to flourish. this is why they recommend eating yogurt when you're on antibiotics.
