Thrush?

Well I gave DD omnicef for 2 days due to ear infections and now she has thrush in her mouth. What can I do at home for her thrush? I heard Gentian Violet will work, has anyone tried this? She is eating goats milk yogurt and we have stopped the stupid antibiotics. Why is that something that is "suppose" to cure one thing causes another thing that needs a cure? Also she is a thumb sucker so what do about it staying on her thumb? I guess if the gentian violet works on her mouth I should put it on her thumb too? Thanks.

You should not stop the Omnicef unless the doctor tells you to.  Just call and they will give her something effective for the thrush.

If she has an ear infection and you stop the antibiotics too soon, the bacteria may come back and gain resistance against the antibiotic, since you stopped it before erradicating them all.   She could get a perforated eardrum if the infection gets out of control because you stopped it too soon.  

Its very common to get thrush or even vaginal yeast infections while being treated with Omnicef or other penicillins.  It doesn't mean the antibiotic is "stupid".  It just means she needs to be treated effectively for thrush if she has it.

Gentian violet is also messy, will stain her skin and clothes, and has been associated with mouth ulcers and stomach upset.
