Ultrasound

Hi,
I am 5 weeks 5 days pregnant (based on the LMP). I went in for an ultrasound hoping to see/hear the heartbeat, but all they could see was a large gestational sac with a yolk sac. Is it just too early to see the fetal pole or any heart activity?
I am really worried.

For all the unnecessary grief and worry they cause, doctors should never do ultrasounds in the fifth week.  Probably you just ovulated a little late.  Try not to worry.  If your hCG levels are rising at the appropriate rate, you're fine.

I had an ultrasound at 5 and a half weeks because of bleeding and cramping, and like with you, they could only see a sack, no heartbeat etc.
They did another for the same reason just a week later, and there was the baby, 122bpm and looking pretty healthy.

At this gestation, just a few days makes a world of difference, so just sit back and relax and I'm sure you'll get to see your baby with its little heart beating at the next ultrasound :)
