Weight Loss Normal?

by jenstam, Jan 30, 2007 12:00AM
Hello all, well I am losing weight and I am 11 wks and 2 days pregnant. I have not been sick at all and eat basically what I want, when I want. I am still losing weight. I have lost a total of about 5 lbs. Have any of you experienced this? Should I be worried? I do have a belly that is starting to pop and I'm not sure where the weight is coming off from, but I'm not sure if I should be concerned and contact my doctor or what? Any thoughts?

I have lost 5 pounds, too. I am 11 weeks today.  I have been sick, but my friend did the same thing and her doctor said not to worry.  I plan to ask my doctor next week, but I think it is pretty normal.

With both my kids I lost about 10 pounds in the first semester.  As long as you are able to keep food and lots of fluids down I would not worry about it.

I lost weight but that was due to over stimulation of the ovaries in the early weeks of pregnancy...however if you  are eating well and enough food then I would just wait till your next check up cos it is not that uncommon to loss weight in 1st trimester....as I believe it is just your baby using up some of your food and your metabolism(sp?) just cant keep up as it gets faster with pregnancy.

I have lost 14 lbs since dec 27.  my doc says not to worrie, that i will gain some weight soon.  i am pretty sure that it was my change in eating habbits, though. I wouldnt worrie about 5 lbs. As long as your eating, you should be fine.

I have always lost weight that soon into my pregnancies.  Even when I wasnt sick.  I wonder if the energy needed to sustain and create the life inside is just burning extra calories we dont know about!  Your dr will let you know if theyre concerned, but even then, they tend to be overly cautious;)  My first 2 pg's, I lost enough weight in the beginning to only end up 2 lbs. and then 8 lbs. over my prepregnancy weight.  I was harrassed everytime I went in;) (Not literally, but they always asked if I was eating, etc.)

Yes, I was thinking the baby uses up calories, too. It sounds pretty normal. I guess I shouldn't worry. I know I'll start packing on the pounds sooner or later!

I lost 7lbs in the first trimester.  At 19 weeks is when I finally gained 1 lb back.  I had a pooch, and didn't know where it was coming from either.  I had morning sickeness, but only for a couple of weeks and I just threw up when I didn't eat.  I don't understand it, but I think you should be fine for now...
I will be 22 wweeks on Friday, and my Dr. said this month and next month she expects me to be playing catchup...and I think she's right!
Good luck!
