Wheezing...could it be Asthma?

by nikki2274, Mar 09, 2007 12:00AM
My DD is 5 1/2 months and for the last two weeks has been making these wheezing sounds every so often when she inhales (like she is having trouble catching her breath).  I asked her Ped about Asthma and he said that her lungs are clear.  It just doesn't sound right to me.
She was born nearly 4 weeks early and I was thinking that maybe her lungs were not fully developed and she may be having some sort of issue now....I know, it may be a far stretch, but I can't help but think that something is wrong...worse case that I was thinking was Cystic Fibrosis...am I just being an overly worried first time mother?

My dd is doing the same thing only she does it when she gets a diaper rash, so I think her wheezing is do to it hurting when I have to clean her up. But I still wonder if it something else so I will see if anyone else has any good info on this topic. Good luck

Hi.  I'm not a mommy yet but, I am an asthmatic and I know that they wont diagnose your baby until he/she is at least 2 years old.
I would be worried to if I were you.  Maybe it's a stuffy nose?

My dd was diagnosed with asthma at 12 months of age.  My mother saw signs of it from the time she was just a few months old.  I, being a first time mummy didn't realize what was going on until she got quite ill.

Lots of babies get congestion, but I would definitely discuss it with your doc.

if she's wheezing, ask the doc about trying a nebulizer. if it helps, you'll have your answer.. or at least more information.

Doctor has to listen while the wheezing is actually taking place--if it's asthma it comes and goes and when they're not having an attack, there is nothing to hear.
