acrylic? is it bad for us preggo?

i like to get my nails done. although i have stopped since i found out i was pregnant.  I heard it was unhealthy. Is this true??

I'm no doctor but I think its actually ok.  They say if you are out of your first trimester try to go early in the day when there arent tons of fumes in the salon.  I'd still ask yoru doc first.  I also had acrylics before I was prego and took them off as soon as I found out.  I have been dying for thsoe beautiful nails everyone raves about in pregnancy.  I'm 17 weeks and they still arent here... though I think they may be getting stronger now that I am able to keep my vitamins down. ask your nail tech for a mask they are suppose to have them for their use it will help keep some of the fumes out you could also pick some up at a beauty supply store( like sallys) drug store might sell them i am a hair dresser/nail tech my doctor told me it was fine that was 10 years ago now have a beautiful 10 year old

My nails are usually horribly brittle so I got them done all the time (till 2006).  I'm 17w 5d and my nails have been wonderful in the last 2 weeks or so, the prenatal vitamins really help a lot with this.  Also so does eating a lot of Jello (I know it sounds strange but some women swear by it).  Also to help them grow a little better during this time feel free to use nail polish, it helps strengthen the nails.

As far as the acrylics.  I considered it, but I honestly don't want to get mine done again.  It ruined my nails, and the fumes were horrible.  I'd personally wait to see if your nails do well on their own.

i am an ob nurse now and i used to be a nail tech..lol. anyway it is completely safe to get your nails done while you are pregnant.

dont worry about it. my first pregnancy, not only i had my nails done, i had my hair colored or highlighted every other month. as long as you dont highlight your hair on your first trimaster, youre fine and even that is soemething that they say and its not a fact. ok? have fun and take care of yourself.

Can you give some brands of nail polish that do not have these things in them, which you are familiar with?

although i strongly dont think you should worry about it, ask your doctor just to make sure then enjoy yourslef. my doctor told me to relax. i mean this is sick to say but i used to put bleach on my belly to make some visible hair lighter . and i asked my doctor if i can do that while i am pregnant and she said go ahead. i know it sounds terrible, but i asked a few doctors just to be safer, and they all told me not to worry about any of it. i still didnt do that though. ask your doc to be sure.

I am a nail tech and a mommy.  I STRONGLY do not recommend getting acrylics done.  Our fingernails are porous and absorb the chemicals.  Nail polish is made with a chemical called Toluene and also Formaldahyde.  There are polishes out there that do not have these chemicals in them but the polish does not stay on your nails as long as the polishes with these chemicals.  If you want to take the risk and use the polish, that is your decision but as far as getting acrylics, I still say NO WAY.  I hope this helps.

The one that I used was Zoya.  If you cant get it over the counter, have a salon get it for you.  Glad to see you are being cautious.

I agree with Nataliesmommy on this.  The smell is terrible! Yack.  It can't be that good.
