dental work and possible pregnancy

dental work and possible pregnancy

I'm in desparate need of a root canal on an infected tooth. i took penicillin for a week and now have to go back to get the root canal done. I've always had lots of trouble getting numb. This was my 'fertile' weekend, so it's possible I conceived this w/end. Has anyone heard about the effects of having local anesthesia (and probably lots of it for me) so early in a pregnancy? If this doesn't take,I may need IV sedation to complete the work. My OB office just goes it's fine,it's fine.Worried b/c I did have a miscarriage in July, but am hoping I test + in a few weeks...

I don't know for sure, but I would say you'd be alright. A healthy pregnancy can withstand a lot. The ones that we miscarry are usually marked from the beginning, unfortunately.
If you have become pregnant, and it's a keeper, I think you'll do fine. Just my thought. Good luck!

my dentist said no dental work at all during the first tri-mester.  Then after that he'd see.  So, I think every dentist takes different precautions.  Good luck

Each pregnancy I had required a tooth extraction
My first two were absessed and I was on antibiotics prior to the extraction.. I had local freezing with them.
This last pregnancy I had a wisdom tooth act up and had to be extracted also but this doctor said he needed to xray it first.I was not thrilled being pregnant and had to have a xray done but I had a xray, tooth extracted, and local freezing, After each I stayed away from any pain medications (although I could have used some)
Anyways all three of my children are just fine!!!

I had dental work done when I was about 4-5 weeks with this pregnancy. My ob doc told me that local anesthesia is fine just not general anesthesia. I had alot of local and alot of work done and I was so scared too. I would try not to worry.

Now I was 6 /7 months along when I had my dental procedures done
Ask your doctor what he recommends Im sure dentist have had several pregnant patients and wouldnt do anything that should not be done while pregnant or they would have many law suits!!
Every choice has its pros and cons that goes with anything
