fibroid

fibroid

I have a fibroid that has grown to a tremendous size from the estrogen produced during my pregnancy.  The fibroid consumes everything on the right side of my navel and the baby and placenta share the left side.  At 5 1/2 months, the doctors are already worried about the growth restrictions this fibroid (and my bi-cornid uterus) may be placing on my baby.  I am also seeing a perinatologist who is watching this condition.  Does anyone have any info about any procedures that have been used during pregnancy to safely shrink a fibroid?  Also, I am interested in any info about removing the fibroid during the c-section or doing a cesarean hysterectomy.  Does anyone personally know the benefits/drawbacks?  Thanks.

I am sorry you are having so many problems during your pregnancy...  I don't know an exact answer for you-- but--  I had a fibroid removed about 6 years ago-  it was VERY large-  I discovered it because I got pregnant, but I lost that baby (not related to the fibroid)--  I had the fibroid removed before I got pregnant again so that I wouldn't experience the problems you are having now-  my first healthy pregnancy was great--  I did have to deliever my baby c-section as a result of the prior surgery-  anyway-

I had been told that fibroids can come back---  I just delivered my second child 6 weeks ago-  I also delievred him c-section...  my doctor did not see any fibroids on early ultrasounds (or at all as far as I know), but during the delivery he said "you have two rather large fibroids in here again"...  I asked if he could just remove them while I was open, he told me that was a big no-no, as it would cause a lot of bleeding...  fibroids will shrink back down after you give birth and your hormones are less and that is a better time to have them removed....

So,  I know with this last pregnancy I had 2 fibroids that were each the size of a baseball by the time he was born...  but my first was more like yours--  at 7 weeks pregnant the fibroid was already twice the size of my uterus...

You really need to ask the specialist about when to have it removed...  my doc said no during the c-section,  but mine right now are not as large as yours...

I just had an IUD inserted 2 days ago and I asked him if they fibroids would create a problem- he probed the inside of my uterus and said mine were on the outside wall of the uterus, so they were not distorting the interior of it...  so as long as mine don't get much bigger I will just leave them for now...  the surgery to have them removed is not a fun one to recover from...

I wish you the best of luck... try not to worry too much...

Hi Kelli,

I'm 32 years old and pregnant 5 months with my first baby.  I have a huge fibroid that measures 16cm. It started out at a 7cm.  I am now experiencing severe right side pain that wraps around my back. Mine to is on my right side. I have severe gas pain as well. Did you experience gas pain? No biopsy's have been taken, and I worry that it could be cancerous. My doctor wants to try and wait it out and take action after baby is born.  I notice you posted this story back in 2008... How did it all turn out?  I would love to hear from you. Hope you are healthy, and happy.
