glucose test question?

glucose test question?

I just had the 1 hr glucose test done this past week and I failed so now I have to go back for the 3 hr. What do they do at the three hr and what happens if I fail this one? Does eating food that has a lot of sugar make you fail or is it something else?

Same here with my first I failed and then the second, which was the 3 hour i passed. Basically my one hour sugar was over 100 I can't remember what is was. Then at the 3 hour mine were VERY very borderline! But because they didn't go over, they couldn't say I had diabetes! The Dr. told me it dosen't have to do with the foods you eat, because I didn't know I was supposed to fast with the one hour and I ate one of those pop tart to go things and then drank that nasty stuff about 20 minutes later and figured it was from that but he said no. I wouldn't worry to much. I have real a lot of women have to do the 3 hour and it comes out fine! Keep us updated! Oh and time went by SO fast. I thought I would be so bored and tired but I wasn't! Good luck I hope things go like mine did :)

With my first child I passed the one hour, then with my 2nd child I failed the first and was borderline on the 3 hr. I went to a nutritionist and controlled the diabetes with diet.  Then with my 3rd child I did the 1 hr & the 3 hr and I failed them both.  When I failed the 3 hr. I was sent to a nutritionist, but this time the diet did not work.  I had to take medicine daily and was told that if the medicine did not work I would have to take insulin shots.  I was scheduled to go back to my doctor in two weeks, but I went into labor a month early.  Not sure if the gestational diabetes was part of the reason I went into labor early, because I also had hypertension and beta strep.  Even being born 4 weeks early, my son was still very big at 8 lbs. 7 1/2 oz.   He was also very healthy, other than a little jaundiced.  Hopefully, if you do indeed have gestational diabetes, you can control it with diet.  The diet is not too bad, other than having to eat 8 times a day!  Good luck!

The 3 hr. test is very similar to the 1 hr.  You drink the same stuff, and they draw your blood every hour after that.  I brought my mom along for company (I blamed my first failed test on her because she took me for a hot fudge cream puff on the way to the Dr.....how stupid were we?!)  Just like previous posters, however, the nurse swore it had nothing to do with the failed test, but it's hard to believe.  I fasted before the 3 hr. and it came back fine.  Good luck!

the 3 hour is very similar to the one hour except that they draw your blood 3 times once every hour  you also have to fast before taking it. if you did not fast they will not do the test.

With my glucose test which was not that long ago I failed the first test (Glucose Screening)  But I passed the second one (Glucose Tollerance)  I eat a very very very large amount of sugar and sweet products...  Hence the name sugar mama.  Since I have been pregnant the only thing that appitizes me is sweet stuff.  I do not drink nearly enough liquid and the doctor says I am dehydrated all the time.  So foods should not affect the test considering I did not change my diet between the two tests.  Sometimes the first tests are just not as acurate as the second one.  And also they will take you in to the lab, then they will give you a bigger amount of the yucky stuff and give you a few minutes to drink it.  Once again you cannot eat or drink.  Then every hour for four hours they will take blood to test how your body is reacting to the sugars.  After that you go home.  It is very bad because it makes you so thirsty and you cannot drink.  But really it is over before you know it.
