hair loss

hair loss

I had my daughter 9 months ago, before this I had alopecia totalis (but it was starting to grow back, but very very slowly and I had to wear a wig), as soon as I fell pregnant everything else was bad (to me baby was fine) but my hair started to grow fast and within six months of the pregnancy I had enough hair not to wear a wig, and it just got better.
I had my little girl and all was still ok hair wise at first, but within about six months I noticed a patch, although its now got a little fine hair on it is taking an age to grow and within the last few weeks I have noticed another couple of small patches.
I was wondering if my hair did so well in the pregnancy could this be a key to my alopecia and stopping my hair loss and getting good hair growth, is there a connection that I could look at (without obviously getting pregnany)?

It would be interesting if researchers ever found out that there was a link between one of the hormones that comes on with pregnancy, and reversing alopecia.  I would mention the pregnancy hair change to the doctor that you usually see about the alopecia.  If it were something simple like estrogen or progesterone, that might be worth knowing.  On the other hand, it might be some combination of esoteric things that only happens with pregnancy and cannot be duplicated.  Most women get hair growth with pregnancy (it is said to be because the hair does not shed as it does normally) and lose hair after pregnancy (all those hairs that have waited to shed, fall out).  If you are interested in knowing more about that phenomena (i.e., for women who don't have alopecia) you might google "hair changes during pregnancy" or just "pregnancy, hair" and you will find a lot written on it.  I hope you and your doctor can find something to help out of this experience.  Good luck!
