newborn questions diapers,/sleep :)

newborn questions diapers,/sleep :)

Hi everyone :) Well I wanted to know what brand of diaper "works best" and is cheaper?   And what are some of the things that really helped calm your baby and put him/her to sleep?

all answers appreciated! :)

I use cloth diapers, so no advice there.

Babies don't sleep much at first, so be prepared for that.  I always found swaddling helped the baby as well as rocking.  My kids loved swings as well.

Good luck.  It is hard at first but it does get easier.

With my DD 5 years ago I used luvs.  They were cheeper than huggies or pampers and she was alergic (allergic) to huggies.  Huggies are thinner but they have some type of chemical in them that soaks up wetness that her little bottom could not take.  I have started buying diapers for this baby and I pick up what ever is on sale in diffrent sizes so I can stock up now and not have to buy so much at one time.

If you have time, read the book "Happiest Baby on the Block".  It's mainly about colic, but the underlying message is how to soothe and calm babies.  It goes over things like swaddling, shhhh'ing, swinging and a few more things that I don't remember anymore...

Worked like a charm though!!

I like target brand, they are cheaper and didn't leak.  I used Walmart brand early on....White Cloud.  My DD had tons of leaks with pampers and huggies newborn.

It is an ever changing thing, in the beginning I like Pampers until my kids inevitably develop rashes from them. By that point I switch to Kroger brand. I am not a fan of LUVS, they leaked for all my kids and do not stretch like Pampers. I hate pampers baby dry, I prefer the swaddlers/cruisers and I can't stand the Huggies regular, the supremes don't have that same funky stink to them.

Above all, I love the kirkland brand wipes from Costco. They are soft, I have never had any problems with rashes or reactions, and they are cheap.

I have a DD.  She wa sunder 8 pounds when she was born so I used Huggies Newborn.  Now I use Pampers Cruisers because she's 7 months and 25 pounds and the Huggies size 3 seems smaller than the Pampers.
I swaddled her until she started to kick and scream about it.  I nursed her constantly.  She never slept, still doesn't.
best wishes and good luck!

my dd was 6 lbs 9 oz when she was born and the only diapers that I found worked best for her (fit her well, and didn't leak) were Pampers swaddlers.  Thought they were great!

Both my kids were allergic to pampers.  I used Huggies until I found metal shavings in the diapers.  Started using walmart brand and never had any problems.

I appreciate all coments :) I was just wondering what coupons to start getting and such, plus I was lost on this subject since there are SO many diapers to choose from! I still have a while to enjoy my sleep but after he comes I'll use all of your advice on soothing him and check the book out. Thank you all :)

I used the WHite Cloud Brand from Wal-mart--I did not use there really cheap brand (forget what the name is) it is in a yellow bag with a duck--those leak and don't hold up very well--But White Cloud does a good job for a reasonable price.

Pampers swaddlers are my fav. but have found that on the cheaper end I like the target brand better than the Walmart brand, they fit better and don't leak like the WalMart brand but I do think it depends on your baby. Huggies seems to run larger than Pampers, that's good for some and not good for others.........

Pampers Swaddlers are the best, slim fit too as the huggies and the cheaper ones seem to run wide.  I know they are the most expensive, but they do fit the best.  I bought them at BJ's (like Costco) for $34.99 for 200, Luvs ran about $21.99 for the same quantity.  I likes Luvs when the start to really move around but in the beginning, I like the Pampers.

In a recnt parenting mag they mentioned www.1800diapers.com and a coupon code : babytalk1 for $3 off. If you order more than $50, shipping is free. I haven't placed my order yet, but do like the idea of having them shipped directly here now that I live in the sticks!

I used pampers with my first (swaddlers and then the cruisers, hated baby dry) as he was a long slim fit, this baby is a bit chunkier and huggies supreme fit better but if I am passing by Costco (it's a bit far away to make a special trip for me) I buy their Kirkland brand, they are almost identical to Huggies supreme (certainly in the 1-2 size, haven't got to the bigger ones yet) and loads cheaper. Kirkland brand wipes are great too and they have a plastic flip top on each individual packet so they are great for traveling or in the diaper bag, I always stock up on these too when I am there. Generally I don't go for the own brands, I have tried several thinking 'these might be okay' but I am usually disapointed with bad fit or leaking so I trawl the internet for coupons for branded diapers and with these you can usually knock off a couple of dollars so they end up not much more expensive than the own brand. If you are in Canada go to Save.ca, they always have loads of coupons and join the huggies and pampers web sites too. Also even if you don't plan to use formula join the nestle and enfamil sites, they send you loads of info and a free diaper bag, I use mine all the time, you can always pass the free formula and coupons to someone else if you don't want them, I left mine at the doctors office for someone else to pick up.

I started with huggies but they always felt wet, and with LUVS when my son started moving around they would break and these gel beads would get all over, my son has been in White Cloud ever since, never had a problem with leaking

I LOVE Pampers Swaddlers.  I know it's a little more but it's the softest and streches well.  I tried LUVS, White Cloud and Huggies, and they seem stiff and uncomfortable.
Wal-mart's Parents' Choice wipes are good and inexpensive.
To calm your baby down, you can try swaddling, rocking, singing.  Newborn sleeps a lot the first 2-3 weeks.
Congrats and enjoy every moment.

I used white Cloud with my 1st baby 3 1/2 years ago, and they were great, but they have changed them now, and I think they are horrible. Right now, I am using Pampers, and they are good. Very few leaks, except with a really big poo. I never cared for Hugies with my 1st, they felt damp on the exterior, and haven't tried them this time around.
