newly lactose intolerant?

by rubyolivia, Jan 29, 2007 12:00AM
I recently has been getting extremely sick to my stomach with lots of gas and bloating. It is VERY bad and I have come to find it happens only after eating dairy products. My mother is lactose intolerant (but she is OK with most dairy products in moderation....just not straight milk). I have never had this problem before and was curious if anyone else has had the same issue. If so, did it go away after delivery or after a certain length of time? I realize everyone's different....but any help here would be appreciated! Thanks so much!

You can develope an allergy at any time.  Eat what your body can tolerate and take calcium.

It will probably correct after delivery.

I actually had the same thing happen to me during the 1st trimester of my pregnany (started about 5-6 weeks into pregnancy). It was pretty strange because I LOVE milk and cheese and had never had a problem with it but here I was where I couldn't eat it without getting an upset stomach and sometimes getting sick. I was thinking since my husband was kinda lactose intolerant (sounds kinda like your mom..fine with small amounts but not large amounts) maybe the baby was to?? I started drinking Lactose Free milk and that helped. For some weird reason now though I can drink regular milk with no problems. I think I started being able to drink "normal" milk around 16 weeks (18 weeks and 3 days pregnant right now). Hope that kinda answeres your question.
