not able to detect fetal pole or heartbeat at 5 1/2 weeks gestation

hello to all,
just wanted to start out by sayein god bless to all my question is as follows and if it is the norm for my gestation age thanks in advance for any answers or comments.I had both ultrasounds done transvaginal and the abdominal one on 5/23/06, LMP was on 04/11/06 that put me at 5wks 5days on the day of the US, reason for the early US is had loss in 02/2005. all the doctor could tell me was that there was a gestational sac and yolk sac viewed but no fetal pole or heartbeat i have to return on 6/7/06 for a follow up ultrasound and am so worried to have to wait that long, the thing is i have no bleeding or spotting as in the previous pregnancy but some less than mild cramping though i have no morning sickness i do have very tender breasts and tired almost all day. i dont know maybe it is to early to see anything else just guess will have to wait and see. anyone else has had this diagnosis about the gestational sac and the yolk sac would really like to know. thanks and god bless to all :)

I had the same thing.  They finially found the fetal pole and heartbeat at about 7w.  I will be 12w tomorrow and everything is developing just fine.  Hope this eases your mind a little.  I know how worried I was and how nuts I went worring about it.

I had an U/S at exactly 5 weeks due to some spotting I was having.  All they saw was the gestational sac and yolk sac.  Exactly two weeks later we saw the  HB.  Now I'm 13 weeks and everything is going great.  Oh, and I didn't have any m/s until about 7 weeks.  Don't worry that you don't have it yet.  I'm sure it'll come and then you'll wish it hadn't! :)

I am in the same boat as you. I went in for an ultrasound on the 30th of may. My LMP was 4/14. I was supposed to be 6 weeks 4 days. They found a Gest sac and Yolk sac but saw no fetal Pole. They said that I was measuring at 4 weeks 3 days.They said I could have ovulated late or that my baby was devloping at a different rate than the average. They told me to come back on the 14th of June to see if my pregnancy was viable. I am exhausted, and my breast are very sore. I have all of the same preg symptoms that I has with my son. I have never heard of a blighted ovum. Does this sound bad?

Almost a week ago i started having a little bit of pink spotting only 2 times and only when i went to the bathroom and wiped. Dr sent me for an ultra sound and according to lmp i should have been 6 wk 1 day but they did not see a fetal pole only gestational sac and yolk sac and said i was measuring at 5 wk 5days is it ok that all they saw was both the sacs and not the baby I go back on the 13 for a reapeat scan. my hcg levels were checked at first it was 4600 then 48 hours later was 6300 i know that levels should double but should it be every 48 hours or can it take 72 hours also. I am very scared this is my third pregnancy my frist ended in misscarage at 10 weeks when i went in for ultra sound and they found no heart beat and said the baby had stopped growing at 7 wks my 2nd pregnancy was very difficult i had lots of problems. I was also diagnosed with a bicornuate uterus and was told by one dr i have a high chance of misscarrying again and another dr told me my only real risk is preterm labor a breech presentation which is what happened with my son who is now almost 3 years old. please any info would really help.

I went for an early scan today thinking I was 7 weeks 3 days. I fell pregnant whilst taking the pill. Although this was a shock, my partner and I were just getting our heads around it and feeling excited

Dr could only see gestational sac with a diameter of 10.7mm. I was told it may not be viable or may be due to having a longer cycle due to taking the contraceptive pill.

Can anyone out their shed any light..... I have another scan in 2 weeks and cant stop worrying.

I AM FIVE WEEKS AND FOUR DAYS TODAY AND WENT TO HAVE AN ULTRA SOUND DUE TO SPOTTING ONCE WHEN I WIPED. THEY SAW BOTH SACS BUT NO FETAL POLE AND NO HEART ACTIVITY.........I GOTTA GO BACK IN A WEEK............IM SO WORRIED AND SCARED.......IS THIS NORMAL????????? SHOULD I WORRY??????????? It's possible you're earlier than you think. In early pregnancy, a few days can make a world of difference. I didn't see a heartbeat or fetal pole until I was 7 weeks pregnant. Others see it sooner. Try not to worry until you get your next ultrasound. Most doctors typically don't do early ultrasound scans for this reason alone. They cause far more stress than good.

Hi im seeing alot of possitive storys which is great! I went for an early scan last thurs due to crampn, im 51/2,weeks today so i was still in my 4th week when i had scan, it showed nothing at all, cramping mild but still there, had another scan yest and a sac was sighted in my uterus, i tht that was gd news then my doc says il need more bloods to check levels are still going up in doubling pattern every sec day, becos we couldnt see the yolk sac or the fetal pole , im scheduled for anothet scan next mon which will make me bout 6 weeks 2 days , im hoping theres smethn there , has anyone had a similar expetiance? Bless all those lil bumps xx

I am 5 week 5 day according my LMP. My ultrasound report is

"Uterus is gravid. Anteverted in position. Endometrial cavity contains a cystic area surrounded by double echogenic rim representing gestational sac. Diameter of the sac is about 10.8 mm, corresponding to the gestational age of about 5 weeks 5days. No fetal pole, secondary yolk sac and cardiac pulsation are not visualized.
Cal-De-Sac is clear."

My Doctor prescribed my some medicine and advise me do another ultrasound after 2 week.
I am very tense.
Are there anybody to help me?

What could be the possible result?

Hello to all the worried moms to be. I'm in the same situation, I'm a 32tough yr old first time mom to be so we're super excited and scared to death now because I'm 5 1/2 wks and had been cramping for a while but no spotting and went to the ER and was told that there was no HrtBt or fetal pole visible. I g oback on Dec 5th dor a follow up. So, im confused and scared ; are the odds good that there will be a good outcome. I also suffer from a uterine fibroid on my uterus that may be contributing to the pain.
