pregnancy straight after D

by Fisch, Jan 16, 2006 12:00AM
Hi There,

I'd really appreciate if someone could reply to this post.
I had a missed miscarriage and D&C on Nov.25 05. It's now seven and a half weeks on and I haven't had my period. I took a pregnancy test at 5 weeks after and it's positive. It is possible that I'm pregnant as my partner and I had sex during that time, however, I haven't got many symptoms (just sore breast and twinges)and I've read somewhere that after a miscarriage the body can have higher hormone levels for up to 9 weeks that can give a false positive
Has anyone experienced something like this?

I had m/c naturally and within 2 weeks my levels were below 5 and I am pg again...never had a period. Dr said you always ovulate before a period so you will have ovulated before the next period... I would ck with the Dr... sounds like you are pg to me!

by stillwaiting, Jan 16, 2006 12:00AM
Did they check your hcg levels? If so, where were they? I imagine they weren't very high to begin with. (to be so early on)They usually drop fast, or at least mine did.  I would go in and have my hcg numbers checked. That will tell you what is going on. You may very well be pg again. Keep us posted. God bless.

by MandaJo111, Jan 16, 2006 12:00AM
Your levels should have dropped by now.  It sounds to me like you are pregnant.  You may want to take one more HPT just to be sure.  By this point your levels should have dropped.

Call your doctor right away so they can get you in and check you out.  If they confirm pregnancy, they will probably do an ultrasound early on to find out just how far along you are.

Just to let you know several of us on here have m/c and gotten pregnant again before we had a period.  And are doing just fine.  I will be having a baby girl on the 3rd of February, and everything has went just fine for me despite the miscarriage immediately prior.

Make sure you get in to the doctor right away so they can get you on prenatals and all.

Good luck,

Amanda

I'm definitely making a doctor's appointment now - feeling encouraged by all your comments - will let you know how it goes!

Hello,
I am in the same boat as you.  I had a complete miscarriage naturally on 12/30, and my levels are still high enough to test pregnant on those 100 ml of HCG.  My breasts have not gone back to normal and I feel a little pregnant here and there and have continued to gain a couple of pounds.  Did this happen to you?
I called my doctor today and he said that it is still possible to have HCG in you blood after that long, or I could be pregnant.  I don't know what to believe. He is having me come in for HCG levels today and in a few days.  Hope all goes well with you!

Hi, everyone. I can relate. I just had a D&C on Dec. 20th. My hcg hormone finally dropped to 27 so it wasn't showing up on a urine test anymore. But this morning I took 2 + pregnancy tests. I hate not knowing what's going on with my body and being tired all the time. Can I really be pregnant again? Has anyone been through this too?

Hi,
I had my D&C on the 20th of dec. also and am waiting for AF... I decided to look into herbs to enhance the "environment" and speed along this process if possible. I am taking Vitex which has huge benefits from what I have been reading. CO Q 10 was reccomended as well.  Any comments??

by kelbre, Jan 16, 2006 12:00AM
Well, I got back from Dr. today.  My HCG was 35 and prog was 3.  Don't know if I'm preg. again or not, or if hormones are just coming down.  Will retest again on Wed.  My boobs sure feel that way, but they have since about 3 days ago.  The feelings went away right after my miscarriage on 12/30 but returned a few days ago, and I have alot of pressure too!  Is it normal to feel this way with only 35 ml of HCG?  I can't remember.  I've had at least 70-80 when I was 5 weeks preg but no symptoms.  I am also worried about my prog. level.  According to research I've read, once you conceive, your prog. should be at least 10 to be considered a viable pregnancy.  Good luck to all and will let you know what the results are as soon as they come in on Wed night.  It's been almost 3 weeks since miscarriage and HCG is still in body or maybe adding on with a new little one. Take care all.

Hi all!  I had a miscarriage and D/C on Dec. 20th.  I have not started my period yet,and it's been 4 1/2 weeks.  I am experiencing some signs of preg.  Boobs are itchy and enlarged, tired.  My husband and I have been using the "pull-out" method of birth control.  Any suggestions on whether or not I may be preg.  Scared to take home preg. test because what if there is leftover hcg from my last preg.  Help!

Hello to everyone out there.  I have posted many times but I am really looking for some answers I cannot find anywhere.  I had a miscarriage in Oct/05.  My doctor told me to wait 0ne cycle and try again, and I did, and unfortnately I just went through my second miscarriage.  Both were done by D&C, the OB told me that I am unable to miscarry naturally.  Thought the OB tell me to wait just one cycle, could it be that the lining of the uterus needs more time to heal?  I don't seem to have a problem getting pregnant, its staying pregnant.

Also wanted to know is it normal to be spotting brown, still after 2 weeks since the procedure?

I'm not even sure where to begin.  Having a m/c and d/c was the WORST THING I HAVE EVER WENT THROUGH!  I was deeply connected to my baby, even though I was only 8 weeks preg.  I have been reading your background and comments to other ladies who have written in.  You offer such compassionate advice to others so why did you give such a cold, short answer to me!  I really thought I could connect with someone on this site, but feel extremely disappointed in the response...seeing that you where the only one to respond.  I did by the way go to my doctor's office BEFORE I got your response.  I am not preg.  Should start my cycle anytime.  I do have three healthy children and feel very blessed from God for such gifts.  I know you m/c and I am so very sorry for your loss.  I know what it feels like.  May God send you blessings through you time of confusion and loss.

apology accepted. smile.  I know all about bad days - I had one today!  With this week being sanctity of human life week and all it makes me wonder about the life that was taken from inside of me with my little baby.  I know God has a bigger plan and am trusting in Him.  I do hope and pray that you will conceive soon.  I think my hubby and I are done having kids.  A book that is really helping me right now is entitled A Rose In Heaven by Dawn Siegrist Waltman.  She had 2 early miscarriages and a still born at 20 weeks. It is filled with very encouraging reflections.  Best of luck to you.  My prayers are with you.

I am so so sorry i came off that way.. i didnt mean to, honestly.  I Started to post something else and ended up erasing it and posting "call the doctor".  I had a D&C done on 1/5 and the doctor told me no vaginal activities for 4 weeks (then i have my post op exam) and will get the ok to "do it" again.  There are a lot of people on this forum who miscarry then go on ttc again before their first period. They all end up being confused/stressed out that they may be pregnant.  obviously if you just m/c you may have the hcg left and obviously you will test positive on a hpt.  Trust me, I would love to be pg again asap.  But we all have to do what is right for our bodies. Many ladies also go on to m/c again after getting pg too soon because the lining was too thin to hold an embryo.  Again, i am so so sorry for your loss, for your not being pg this time, and for coming of mean.. i didnt mean to.  I had very bad days yesterday and wednesday. I hope you can find it in  you to forgive me.. Part of me is jealous that all these ladies are trying again and i have to wait.  I have to go for a HSG on my uterus to find out if i have a deformity and it is just screwing my brain left and right.  Good luck to you, lots of baby dust, congrats on your children you do have (i have any yet)  again, i really am sorry...

by MomtoHJ, Jan 25, 2006 12:00AM
What a great forum.  I too experienced a miscarriage over the holidays (I was 12 wks) and on Jan 4/06 had to be given a D&C.  I have to say this has been one of the more difficult things I have been through.  My DH and I had not been trying long and already have a 3 1/2 yr son but still it seems like almost too much for your body to go through, not to mention your mind.  Well I am now 3 wks post op and I still have not seen my a/f, I'm not sure why but I didn't realize that you could get pregnant again without having a cycle and so now that may just be the case.  We have an appt tomorrow to see.  We are ready any time but guess we should have waited so that this next pregnancy would have the best chance of continuing through.  I'll keep you posted!

by Fisch, Feb 01, 2006 12:00AM
just to keep everyone updated. I did another 2 tests 9 weeks after the D&C and all of a sudden they were negative (5 weeks and 7 weeks after were positive). I've been to the doctor for a bloodtest to see what's going on and should have the results some time this week.
I reckon hormone levels can remain high after a D&C for weeks after (I read somewhere for up to 9 weeks). I might have just got false positives :-(

After reading you all thread, I'm feeling a little more optimistic about being pregnant in the near future. Jan 3 we found out I was pregnant, and because I have bicornuate uterus they followed me very closely with ultrasounds weekly. At week 6 we saw the heartbeat, but the following week we went in for my usual exam and there was no longer a heartbeat. So, on Jan 27th (2 days before my 27th bday) I had a D&C. Tomorrow is my 2 week followup, at which point we have been told we can resume "Activity" but recomend not getting PG for two months. I am wondering if anyone got PG after thier D&C earlier than two months, and how is it going? Hubs and I have never realy t*tried* to get pregnant, but are fine with it happening. So, we're hoping for it to happen again but of course with better luck. Thanks for any help or advice you gals can give, you all seem sweet. Thanks again, Ciao!

I recently had a m/c on 02/02/06 My first m/c and it was real hard for me. I thought that it would never happen to me being that I had two healthy pregnancies prior to my m/c. Well I was wondering if you still have the symtons of pregnancy after a m/c?? Because for the past three days my boobs been sore and I've been getting sick same feelings like when I was pregnant. I did have unprotected sex like 6 days ago (for the first time since my m/c) but I dont think I would be getting sick so early if I was pregnant??? Well I was wondering if anyones experienced these things after a m/c

Hello!  I had a D&C on 2/14/06 only because I had my period for 7 weeks (was not fun!).  My husband and I want to start trying for a baby. We have never tried for a baby yet and I've never been pregnant.  Is there an amount of time you have to wait to conceive after a D&C that was for my purpose?

Thanks!

I had a miscarriage on 2/08/06 and my D&C on 2/10/06. This was the worst day of my life. I have 3 kids (9,4,and3)but I still would like to have another baby. My doctor told me when I went for my checkup on the 17th of Feb. that I could go back to my normal activities including sex. He asked me did I want to have another baby anytime soon and he put me on a medicine call metformin to get my hormone level back to normal and told me to let nature take it's course. But seeing you all posted message I hope we can have a successful pregnancy this time around. My husband and I want to make up for the baby that we lost. We've been having sex every day without protection since the 17th. Both of us took the miscarriage hard and I feel like I won't be myself until I get pregnant again. I haven't had my regular cycle yet but I hope we get pregnant soon. I only bleed from the 8th-15th and I am greatful for that due the one of the lady's that said she bleed for 7 weeks (no offense). I reaaly do want a baby it has been 3 years since I held a baby. If anyone has something that they would like to share with me please do so.

Hello!! It has been exactly two weeks since my D&C. I didn't listen to my doctor and i had sex two days ago. Today i feel awful, i'm sleepy and my breast are tender. I was wondering if i could be pregnant and if so, could i be having symptoms so soon after conception? I had been trying to concieve for three years and i had an appointment to see a fertility specialist two days before i found out that i was pregnant. A week later i found out that my baby never started growing. I was so hurt. If anyone can help me out please let me know.

hiya, just wondered if someone could help??? i had a silent m/c on the 9/2/06 and then had a d+c the same day, they said i was carrying twins and they had gone in the 10th week, i was thought to be 14 weeks and only found out i had miscarried at my first scan!!! My problem is i havent had a period but i have had unprotected sex twice by mistake (condom split) my husband tells me not to worry but im scared of getting pg before my period, what do you think??/

by Marg2307, Mar 07, 2006 12:00AM
Hi ladies! I had a miscarriage myself and a week ago today I had a D&C done. I had no bleeding, pain, or anything. I have not yet started my period....so I hoping it will start soon because we are so eager to try again. We were told to wait 2 weeks before having sex and well that did not work....we had sex last night and now after reading severl comments I see that people got pregnant again and never had a period.....I mean how likly is that to happen?

by kbabes, Mar 16, 2006 12:00AM
Hi I'm a new member and in the same boat as a few of you. I had a complete m/c 06th feb 2006 (didn't have d&c)and it is now 16th march and no sign of a period. my partner and i have had unprotected sex quite a few times since so i am wondering whether i may be pregnant. I have also had symptoms similar to my recent pregnancy such as sore breasts, twinges in my lower abdomen, frequent trips to the toilet. I took a hpt just over a week ago which was negative so I am as baffled as anyone else.I'm a bit reluctant to go to see my doctor just incase i am getting my hopes up. I would be over the moon if i am pregnant again.

by Kier, Mar 16, 2006 12:00AM
It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who experienced a missed miscarriage and had to have a D&C (this past Monday).  I'm so sad, and so sad for everyone who has or is experiencing a pregnancy loss.  My post op visit is in early April, and my doctor said I should wait one to two cycles before I start trying again.  I am 40 and my husband and I are excited to start trying again.  This is such a tough wait, how do I make it through?  Concentrate on losing some weight, eating healthy, praying?  God give me strength.  I hope the tests come back and give some answers as to why I had the miscarriage.  I am concerned b/c after the D&C I didn't bleed too much, but today I started bleeding again.  I have some cramping as well, but I think this is all normal?  Because of my age, the doctor has me on metformin and I'll probably start on clomid again once I get through the second cycle.  Any advice out there?

My heart goes out! when I had my miscarriage I was told that there is no given explanation as to why this happens other than it could be that it is an "abnormal" embryo that is unable to develop so eventually dies. I do hope that you don't blame yourself- this site should assure you that it happens to most of us-its just one of the painful things we have to experience. I'm not the best at giving advice on this subject because it is still a bit sore for me too, but for now just concentrate on healing physically, remember your partner is there and then you can think about reasons and the future.

Thinking of you.

by MiniMo, Mar 17, 2006 12:00AM
Hey, the same thing happened to me.  I miscarried last month on the 3rd, that ended up falling on a Friday and it's been about 6 weeks now and I took a pg test and it was positive and my breast have been sore as well.  I don't know what to think, don't want to get my hopes up, as my partner and I are hoping, but then again, we don't want to be upset.  So I'm just going to go to the clinic and get checked out, I wasn't so sure whether to wait for a couple of weeks more to go to the clinic or just to go now, you know?

by MiniMo, Mar 17, 2006 12:00AM
Fisch, I wish the best for you =o)  As for me, I don't know, went to clinic today, they said it was positive, have to be back next week for an ultra sound, who knows.  Don't want to get hopes up, but don't want to be bummed either. =o/

by kbabes, Mar 18, 2006 12:00AM
How is everyone doing? still no period! This morning when I got up I felt really nautious and my breasts felt tender. I still don't know what to think as I don't want to be told its all in my head. My abdominal pains are a little stronger so im unsure whether it is menstral. However with my previous pg I had similar pains which obviously ended in a miscarriage. I'm excited, anxious and petrified- I would not be able to cope with another m/c. Can anyone shed any light on what may be happening?

by MiniMo, Mar 18, 2006 12:00AM
Kbabes, hey hon, first and foremost, hope you are doing well. Well I read in book once that you may experience some cramps at first, because your body is getting used to not being without a period and it may be around the time you were supposed to have one.  Even though, I experienced cramps as well and it lead to a miscarriage, but..... I've always heard, each pregnancy is a different one, but I'm no doctor, but I do try to read different books and info on the internet as I'm sure we all do, but please do keep positive thoughts, I am =o) My prayers go to you and whomever is in the same boat.

by kbabes, Mar 19, 2006 12:00AM
Thanks minimo! abdominal pain has subsided so feeling a bit more positive. I have also read on internet that abdominal pain is normal due to stretching of ligaments , muscles and veins to accomodate for the growing embryo (that's assuming I am pregnant so you are absolutely right. I am trying to use these facts in order to think more positively. All I need to know now is whether I am pg or not as my period is 7 weeks overdue.

I hope all is well with you and anyone else who is in same boat.

by kbabes, Mar 19, 2006 12:00AM
Hi! Latest news- I'm Pregnant! Took a hpt today and it came bak positive with the darkest line ever! Feeling happy but scared at the same time. Not sure what will happen now just hope all will be ok. Going to see my doctor tomorrow so will keep you posted.

by MiniMo, Mar 20, 2006 12:00AM
kbabes, congrats, hope all goes well, that is what happened to me as well, dark line and all, me and you are pg at the same time, very well.  It's just the matter of waiting now, huh, keep positive thinking, always. =o)  Hopes and prayers to all.

by kbabes, Mar 21, 2006 12:00AM
Thanks Minimo! You've all been a great help. I went to see my doctor yesterday and he verified that I may be pregnant but he needed to do more tests. Had my urine tested (the results will come back tomorrow) and I will be having blood tests tomorrow also. I'm really anxious- I just need the pregnancy confirmed and to know that all is well before I can relax. However I do feel more positive this time so I'm hoping that's a good sign. I wish everyone all the best and will keep you updated.

by MiniMo, Mar 21, 2006 12:00AM
Man, he needs to hurry up with that urine result, they usually can do that part in one day, you know.  But the HCG takes a couple of days since it has to go to the lab and stuff.  I go to the clinic tomorrow, so please wish me well and the good thing is that still no period and sore breast. Hey I was wondering kbabes, I would really like for us to keep in touch with each other with our pg info and instead of babbling on here, maybe we can e-mail each other, if you'd like.  I'm not a weirdo, I swear, I have a page on myspace.  Anyway, it's up to you, so let me know here and I'll check back, it would just be really neat to let each other know stuff, alright, bye. And hopes to prayers to all, who are trying, positive thoughts.

Hi ladies,
I had a D&C on August 12th, and starting september I have had numerous false "pre period" symptoms like that brown discharge, making me think I would finally have my period... but its been eight weeks and nothing. I suspect I may be pregnant but I am so confused --  and am a little scared because the doctor emphasized that I wait 4-6 months. Supposedly your uterus gets used to releasing the embryo and will possibly do it again. Please tell me it will be ok! We are secretly wishing to be pregnant again, but at the same time afraid the same thing will happen. Counting from August 12th to today, its eight weeks. What now??
