rh negative

Hey all..
Anyone here RH negative... I found out at my last visit that I am 6 weeks and a heartbeat was seen, so all was well. But, i've been reading up on the rh factor and since I fall under the 15% of having rh negative blood, I am concerned. I will have to go for the rhgam shot at 28 weeks..but i'm confused...does this mean my baby is find untill then??? What if I had a miscarriage before and didn't know it...and i've already have sensitivity towards it...or would the blood test shown that. It is quite possibly that I had a miscarriage in my early 20's. Back then I had missed a period for 2 months and then had severe period..with cramps and clotting..I just thought it was a bad period, but the docs back then told me I could have had an early miscarriage...but they said there is no way of telling..or they said that years ago...So, now i'm  a little worried....anyone have this issue???

Discuss your concerns with your OB.  If he/she feels like it is indicated, your blood can be tested for signs of rH sensitization.

Hi, I'm also rH negative. I talked to the nurse and she told me that I would need that shot but not until the last trimester. I read that its because that is the time where your baby can be most harmed i guess. Talk to your dr. and if they say everything is fine and you don't need it yet, I wouldn't worry about it. No reason to stress yourself if the dr. isn't stressing. Good luck

I am also Rh negative.  If you are concerend they can test your blood to see if you have been exposed to Rh +, if you have then there are certain risks for your baby that you would have to be aware of.  I had a m/c last year and I had to get a shot of Rhogam, I believe during that time they tested me to see if I had been sensitized to Rh + and I had not been.
Your baby should be fine.  The reason for the shot at 28weeks would be for any possible mixture of yours and babys blood.  The shot should cover you until birth as it is effective for 3 months.  At the birth of my son he ended up being Rh - too so I didnt have to get it at that time, but I did get it at 28 wks.
