practice the sales thing with a friend,,,practice make perfect...find the good qualities of the item quickly..ie...We have a fabulous new shade of Revlon nail polish, currently available in our cosmetic department. Our sales staff has recieved many happy customers who seem to love the Royal Red color. It is easy to apply and dries quickly. We invite you to visit our outstanding makeup department for a free sample.

this is the kind of stuff the want to hear WE's not I's your part of a team...not a solo act,,,avoid using the same word twice during a sales pitch,,,,and make it sound like you are doing the customer a BIG favor..that is what your interviewer is looking for....Hold the product up.

i was told that they make you do a sales pitch.. this is what im most worried about.. they give you a random item ( could be nail polish, or a bag of chips) and you have to sell them on that item.. im not good with on the spot.. i get so nervous my mind goes blank.. i was at my last job for almost 3 years and the reason i was fired ( which is was pretty much classified as i quit.. they asked me to quit so they didn't have to fire me) was because i couldnt find a reliable babysitter for my daughter.. well i now have that covered...  and my last boss even told me to use her as a reference anytime i wanted( this was after i was "fired" )  this is just a sales position not the photographer but i love photography and i thought this would be a good learning experience for me...  im not going to lie the money isnt great.. but the experience i will be getting is worth it... thanks for all the advice and wish me luck!

Im learning some of this now in a business communication class...we have to do a mock interview...plus i have been on some real interviews.

you were already given the most common and basic tips...dont over do the makeup..no peircings hide tattos if you have them.....dress is important it is their fist impression,,my teacher suggested neutral colors....slacks and a nice blouse is fine, a blazer or suit jacket is better,,,

interviewers often ask what are your hobbies,,,think about this there is a reason,,for example I like needle point thats a great hobby for someone trying to get into medical field to mention. why,,it indicates good small motor skills if I can cross stitch I can find a vein on a patient....get my meaning...it is not a random question..

as all said watch the body language...be confident....be honest...these interviewers can smell a white lie a mile away,,if you for example were ever fired admit it followed immediatley buy a positive what you learned from it,,,many people have been fired it will not blow your interview...people who admit self dicovery and growth are valued.

If you have ever done any volunteer work use that, it is admired. good "brownie point"

be ready for the tell me three good things about yourself,
and 'where do you hope to be in 10 years type of questions...

A firm handshake.  It really says a lot about you and your confidence!

I have learned in my career success class in college that if the interviewer would happen to ask you a question in which the answer is negative, you should try to the best of your effort to make it sound positive. For example if the Interviewer would happen to ask if you have knowledge in something and you don't, you could answer that I'm willing to learn. Or in other words, try to remain positive.

Some other helpful things that I have learned:

1. Always answer the Interviewers questions honestly

2. Be on time (Maybe arrive a little bit before time)

3. Always be polite to the Receptionist (Many employers ask them for their input)

4. Dress for success (Try to be familiar with their dress code and dress accordingly or maybe a bit better)

5. You might want to visit the company's website and do some research before going to your interview. This won't just help you better prepare, it will also help the employer realize how interested you must be in the company, if you know some about its' history.

6. Make sure that you have a good firm, non-bone crushing, handshake (This helps show your confidence and will help make a good first impression)

7. Never do anything disgusting at the Interview

8. Try to maintain good eye contact

9. After the Interview, take time out to write a thank-you letter or e-mail to the employer, thanking them for their time and consideration as well as maybe restating why you would make a great addition to their company. (This in turn will help leave the lasting impression that you want on that employer.)

I hope that these tips will help, if you have any farther questions, please feel free to contact me. Good luck with your Interview.

I had always been extremely lucky with interviews. So maybe this trick helps:

1. The day you go, put yourself in the mind frame as if you already had the job. Just make yourself feel that this is what you WILL be doing. (If you can`t, it might mean you don`t really truly want to do that job).
2. Brainwash yourself to avoid using negative expressions. If there is any situation where you might look at the glass being half full or half empty, choose the half full while talking.
3. Be prepared to explain why your were fired, without feeling bad.
4. Sit straight but relaxed and don`t cross your arms (defensive body language)
5. You apply as a photographer? Bring pictures of your baby that turned out well. I bet the greatest challenge is to do family pictures with squirming toddlers :)
Good luck!

If you can try to make eye contact.  Also if you have a friend nearby, see if you can practice interview.  Be prepared to answer such questions like:

What are your strengths? Make sure to put empasis on accomplishments If you saved your past employer money or solved a difficult problem, mention that here.  Talk about how you've worked with people, helped them, etc.

Weaknesses?  (make sure to play down these or if answered use a potential strength like "I work really hard but may forget lunch" or something to that effect)

Because this is a photography based job, you may want to bring samples of your best work.  You may have some time to show them or may not. At least you have them.  Limit to 5 or less photos.  Like they explain with art and illustration, with a portfolio, better to have less than a lot.  You may want to find some kind of binder to show your work.  Black looks most professional.

Good luck with the interview btw.  I applied there (in our area) but haven't heard back.
