Most Memorable Christmas

My most memorable Christmas was in 1994. I was out to sea on my first boat (USS Maryland - Blue). I was the new guy and learning my job was like drinking from a fire hose, but luckily the guys I was with were the best. In early December I was cleaning and found an onion that had sprouted (it was about 8" tall). I was about to toss it in the trash, but my friend decided we should decorate it as our Christmas 'tree'. We put it on a damp sponge to keep it watered, drew and colored paper ornaments. We then carefully taped them to the onion tree. One of the guys had made a string of lights from a bunch of flashlight bulbs soldered together, colored with permanent marker, and hooked to a power supply. We made gifts for each other, wrapped them and placed them around the onion tree. It looked odd, more so because we had to tie the presents and onion tree in place to keep them from going everywhere if the ship took an angle. On Christmas morning we were woken up by "Santa" and the gifts were doled out. I was never so happy to get several packets of hot cocoa mix wrapped up in hand decorated wrapping paper.

I remember I think it was 1979, when I was having a lousy Christmas at my home with my parent's and siblings. Then we heard an almighty bang and suddenly looked outside to see my cat 'surfing' down our backyard hill on water from our behind neighbours above ground pool! It had burst when someone jumped into it! Was summer here in Australia. I certainly remember that and I laugh at the look on the cat as he surfed down the hill!

My best memory was in the 1984.  I was pregnant and my son was not due for another two weeks.  I started having indegestion, uncomfortableness and some contractions throughout Christmas dinner.  Went to the hospital from there and had my son on the 26th.  The best gift ever!

I wish it had snowed here. I still like to go out when it snows. We had lots of snow last year, but not this year. I still had a great time with my kids and my dog.

Love your memory. Thank you for sharing with us.  See, that just goes to prove that simple can be so memorable, and so special. That is what we need to teach our kids during these difficult days.

And it is about making the best of what you have. (for the wealthy, well disregard, ha ha ha)

Thats a great story just goes to show we can enjoy anything we have a mind to no matter how simple. I guess one of mine that was a happy memory was when I was a child and my mom coming home Christmas eve night with a pile of cakes and goodies she had brought back from the party ...my sister and brother and I , met her at the door at 1am in the morning and picniced all night till gift time around 4am....Santa must have snuck in whilst we were busy as the gifts were all there needless to say we were really tired next day ....
