Constant Headaches

I have been getting daily headaches for about 9 years, I can generally cope with these now as I am used to getting them. I have had an MRI scan about 5 years ago and they didnt find anything wrong. I have changed my diet, given up smoking etc, had my eyes tested, changed my pill and come off of it numerous times, but nothing seems to work to stop them.
There are only the odd days where I dont have one, some days are worse than others, and some days I have to stay in bed.
They dont seem to be migraines as I dont mind the light and dont feel sick.
I feel like I have a ton of bricks at the front of my head, and I also get occasional stabbing pains in the side of my head near my temple.
Is there anything else that can be suggested to stop them!!?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,
How are you? If prescription medications do not work, you may want to consider complimentary and alternative medicine like biofeedback or yoga. There has been studies that show improvement with headaches. An individual undergoing such therapy is hooked to a machine that measures body functions, allowing him to learn to control heart rate, blood pressure, skin temperatures, even brain wave patterns in order to manage physical pain.Talk to your doctor about this. Take care and best regards.

Hi Tia

I have heard of Topamax and believe that it is the worst drug. I have always had migraines but never as bad since having taken Topamax. Its apparently newish on the market and so hasn't been used as much. I'm taking sandomigran but have only been taking it for a couple of weeks and haven't seen too much relief. I am now on Imigran when they get really bad (which is v.often). I have tried endep also. Do you live in the US? Topamax is a US drug (many of them might be tho) but my neurologist (who I now don't see due to this) said Topamax would change my life, it certainly did for the worse! Suffered severe weight loss (its also used for obesity), developed an overractive thyroid amongst other issues. I reported this drug to the theraputic drug association.

I also get the burning nerve sensation which is terrible, I thought that was just me!

Cheers

In answer to "is there anything else...", there is the following alternative.
To to get relief from headache/migraine naturally, the full pranayam exercises are described below.
Initially do Anulom Vilom (as much as you can) for the fist few days and then start the full set of pranayam. This works gradually, so allow time (1 week upto 12 weeks) and concentrate fully on the breathing. Avoid cold drinks and drink warm water.

Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after 1 minute.
Kapalbhati -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and do for upto 15 minutes twice a day. Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently.

Anulom Vilom -  Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril
then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril
then -keeping the left nostril closed  deep breath-in through right nostril
then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.
This is one cycle of anulom vilom.
Repeat this cycle for 20 to 30  minutes twice a day.
You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep breaths into the lungs.

Bhramri Pranayam -Close eyes. Close ears with thumb, index finger on forehead, and rest three fingers on base of nose touching eyes. Breathe in through nose. And now breathe out through nose while humming like a bee.
Duration : 5 to 15 times

Hey! Glad you mentioned knowing that repetitive use of painkillers casues "rebound" headaches b/c my first advice would have been to tell you about them. I'm same as you, daily headaches for 6yrs w/ migraines & burning sensations in my head. Are you seeing a neurologist or just your primary care physician? I ask b/c my neurologist has put me on two different kinds of "preventitive" RX's (in my case Lyrica in the day, Pamelor @ night). They are really working as I've only had one migraine and two bad headaches in the past two weeks (that's amazing to me). Best I've felt in 6yrs as far as my head is concerned. You do not have to live w/them, I don't care if they arn't xtremely painful all the time. Any amount of discomfort in headaches affects someone's quality of life. have you heard of Topamax? I know it's traditionally prescribed for chronic migraines (I was almost given that xcept Lyrica is better for the nerve burning). However, it does work to prevent "headaches" in general as well as migraines. I have recently heard of someone else who's neurologist gave them that for "headaches". Also, I'm sure you have. But, if you are indeed a woman (can't tell by your post)...have you had your hormone levels checked? My neurologist says that's the #1 culprit behind most women's daily headaches. Especially if you are 30+ (body's inching towards the menopause faze). If your not a woman, strike all that (ha)...Also, have you been taking Magnesium? It's been proven that 400mg daily helps prevent headaches. Then there's the herd Feverfew, which didn't help me but I've heard it's helped other people. Also, I just recently (days ago) found out from someone else on this site that 400mg daily of B2 really helps as well. Pulled it up on the internet & found they're right. One more thing...daily headaches can also be a sign of an underlying allergy that might not necc. be from food. I know youv'e tried watching your food, but have you been tested for other allergies? Hope at least some of this helps (:

Hi zcars

its ridiculous, makes me laugh when people say, oww my head really hurts, i think i am so used to having one that i dont think about it except when i have my 'bad days' when i cant concentrate.
I do have some prescription painkillers but they dont always worked, tried all kinds of pain relief but doesnt really work. I only really take the painkillers when it is really bad seeing as the doctors say that taking them to often can cause headaches!! (how do they explain that one!!!)

Hi Joey
I am exactly like you. It is rare if I don't have a headache.
I've had an MRI too and they found everything to be normal.
I have tried many things like you to stop them.
So I don't have any more advice but I know exactly what you are going through.
