Numbness/tingling and blurry vision

by Sharinkay1, Apr 09, 2009 01:57PM
I have suffered from migraines for many years however up until recently I have been migraine free (thankfully) my migraines are starting back up again now very differently from in the past.  Prior I never knew when one would hit me no signs or signals, but now i start off with a blurry vision of sorts.  Almost as though there is a "floater" or something in my eye that if I could just wipe it away I would be able to see clearly again.  Of course I can wipe my eye as much as I want to and it doesn't make the vision any more clear.  I see these as 'signs' now that a migraine is soon on its way but now shortly after the vision problem started my left hand has gone completely numb and very tingling.  (making it very difficult to type this).  I'm concerned about it and don't know if I should get myself to the ER because something is seriously wrong or if its just another part of a migraine coming on although I have never had this happen before.   Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the aura to the migraine.  I have the exact same symptoms as you.  Blind spots in the eyes, left hand numbness and about an hour later I get the pain or blurry vision (silent migraine).  I've had many MRIs and everything is normal, which is probably the same with you.  However if this is the first time experiencing it, you might want to see a neurologist just to rule out anything else.  If you do a search on google for migraine aura or migraine prodrome you will find much info on it.

good luck!
