Muscle spasticity

I've been going through this for almost a week straight now, my legs are stiff as a board when I walk, my hips feel like they have a vice grip on them, my quadriceps, hamstrings and lateral side of my lower leg are killing me.

I've taken Baclofen 60mg and Valium 5mg (about 2 hours later when I found no relief and pain worsening).  This is so painful.

What else can I do about this?

Lisa

My Thryoid levels recently were taken and they are WNL.  The flushing in face and chest area (looked like a sunburn) lasted most of the day today. But now has dissipated after I took the Decadron, Benadryl and Pepcid.

I had another two almost bouts of the bronchospams going full force like it did yesterday but it resolved (thank god -- I didnt want to go to the ER again).

My dizziness is acting up as well as my balance :D Oh lucky me!

You're flushed in the face, huh?  Yeah, sounds like a visit to the PCP is in order.  Could be something completely other, like thyroid or hormones.

My B/P went back to normal  the day after it went up.  But then I had the laryngospasm and bronchospasm.

Last night I almost went back into the Laryngospasm again, but somehow it went away thank god.  I had a little issue this morning as well and it went away. Most likely due to the fact that Im on decadron at this time.

I noticed this morning my face is sunburned as well as my chest.  I wasn't out in the sun so I am assuming that Im having a reaction to the Pepcid (I think).  Im a bit dizzy and my balance is off again like two days ago.  Not as bad but 3/4 there.

Im not sure what to do.

Lisa

PS- Thank you jensequitur and sidesteps for your responses and good wishes.

I had a few weeks when my heart rate and blood pressure was abnormally high.  Normally I'm quite low.   However, it's not something to ignore - I'd talk to your neuro or PCP about it.  Do you have any autonomic dysfunction?  (Short of breath when standing up, heart beats faster, etc.)  I've been tested but they've never found anything that would cause this problem.

A lesion in the brainstem can cause dizziness and fluctuating heart rate.

Lisa,

My BP has been fluctuating higher since my "flare" started last Fall. It seems to go hand in hand with "flares." I am not sure I can explain it. I've always had low blood pressure but it does go up to 130/90. I thought maybe since the majority of my symptoms seem to lead to possible lesions in my cerebellum/pons (I think the pons/brain stem control BP?)  that maybe it's causing some issues with my BP.

I am sorry you are not feeling well. I do hope you are feeling better today.

((((hugs)))

Lisa,
My BP is always low just like yours. It usually is 90/60 or sometimes less. I wish I could say that it is the baclofen that is making it high, but I am uneducated in that medicine, ha ha.

If you went to my first neuro for the dizziness, they would send you home to drink more water because of dehydration. ( I know that some cases that is the reason) but at the time I was dizzy for 8 months,  I would have shriveled up and died by now if it was because of dehydration.

Hope someone else can help you out here,
Pam

What I also find weird is....I just took my B/P thinking I was hypotensive due to the fact that I already normally run 84/48 to 90/50, but it was 154/92.  I never ever have been this high in my life!

I wonder if the baclofen has something to do with this?  I feel dizzy for sure.

Thank you lovely ladies for your words of comfort.  What would I have done without you all here? I swear I feel so fortunate!

I did take more baclofen and it has lessened it a bit.  I do feel a bit dizzy though. LOL!  Goes with my wacky personality.  Actually it feels like my head is too heavy to hold up.

Pam, dont say its not the same as I am experiencing. Pain is pain. Spasticity is spasticity.  It's not fun as you know.

Again, thank you both for your kind words.  Your empathy and words of wisdom do not go unnoticed.

xxoo

Lisa,

Hi hon, I am soooo sorry you are feeling so horrible. I wish i could be there to help you! Please if you want to talk, you know my number, call!!!!

I know I am probably not going to be much help, but, when my spasitcity acts up, I will take my zanaflex and in a couple of hours it slowly goes. I most likely do not have it as severe, but it has helped me during my 5 hr. spastic back episodes that have me frozen for hours.

I know, lol , so not the same as what you are experiencing and the meds you are on are most likely more powerful.

Hope you are feeling better soon,
Pam, flipper dipper

Hi, Lisa girl. The only thing I can suggest, pending calling your neuro on Monday, is taking more baclofen, spread out for max effect.

Hope this helps,
ess

actually -- I've been going through this for over 2 weeks, maybe even three.  Spasticity doesn't always affect me on a daily basis. It appears that I went through a short remission and now its back again.  The last time it lasted 10 months and then all of a sudden I was walking and feeling normal (other than the fatigue and occasional muscle jerking).

Just had to clarify.
