Another weird symptom, shock from the neck...

Oh I have another question about another newish (in the last 6 months or so) symptom.

When I bend my head forward I DO NOT get a shock through my body...however...

If someone or something startles me, I get that "heart in your throat feeling" AND a massive electric shock from mid neck going up to the base of my skull and down through my back arms and legs. I haven't had the chance to talk to my doc about it since I just switched to a new doc again (this guy seems ok, so far), and have only seen him once. He's waiting to get a copy of my medical record, and review it before deciding where to go from here.

ANYWAY, anyone else ever have this? It *****, especially because sometimes I startle REALLY easy!.

Hi Tina- Welcome to our little group. This thread is 4 years old. Many of the original posters may no longer be around. You might get more feedback if you started a new thread.

I have googled this and so far nothing has come up, until now.
I know this is an old post but its good to see I am not some sort of weirdo.
This used to happen to me about 5 or 6 years back.  If I would startle, like for example I just tripped and thought I was about to fall, or any kind of startle really, I would get a zap or sharp shock on the left side of my face. A very uncomfortable pain that lasted no more than a second.  It no longer happens, but I always wondered what the cause was.

I haven't had the electrical shock you describe, but loud noises REALLY bother me - it feels as if somebody physically hit me, and I'll jump.

Christine, LOL my family and I have 10 dogs between us, so for strangers there is no sneaking up but for family they would rather lie around and wag their tails.  Maybe I should talk to them about this and where their loyalties lie...I am glad it isn't as bad for you as it was.

I also checked out your bio.  Nisse looks like she has better things to do and Stella has that newfie look, regal and don't bother me I will let you know when I need something.

LOL Terry, you need to get yourself a couple of dogs, no one sneaks up on you then!

I have a Newfoundland and a Basset, and both are always SO happy to see people that, NO ONE can sneak into my house.

I don't know about for either of you, but this symptom sort of snuck up on me.

I didn't really pay it any attention until I started getting startled more easily, when I was getting "zapped" 5 or 6 times a day, it was a huge issue. It SEEMS that particular issue (startling easily) has calmed down, so the shock's not such a big deal now. It was at the point that one of my kids would come up behind me (they are 3 and 4, so they aren't quiet at the BEST of times), and say something, and I would startle, get zapped, then get pi**ed right off about it. Now it SEEMS to have backed off, as I don't recall having gotten startled recently.

I'm glad I'm not alone in this, although I'm not glad anyone else is going through it. It's always nice to have confirmation that you're not insane! lol

Hi Christine, I get this same feeling.  mine happens for no reson, at least none I can determine.  It feels just as you described it.  I get the same feeling I would get as if I was walking through a dark house and someone jumped out and scared me so bad I would scream.  The only difference is I don't scream with the symptom thing.  I too also startle easy.  I kept saying to honey, you scared the **** out of me.  He says you scare to easy or you're always getting scared.  Neither of us mean scared, we should say startled...but hey scared sounds better.

I have never mentioned this to my doctor or anywhere else for that matter.  It seems I have so much going on if I told everything people might begin to think I am crazy...sometimes I don't think they would be to far from the truth...LOL

Anyway it is good to know your not alone...unless it is a dark house and no one is supposed to be there.  Keep us posted on what your dr. tells you.

I am undx, cruising around limboland, but I do have something similar to this.

Mine is, like yours when startled, and also like you, seems easier to startle me these days.  Mine also happens when I am watching TV or a movie and see something that is hurting someone, I know, dumb huh?

My reaction is mostly from my hips to the tips of my toes.  Sometimes down my back, but mostly the leg thing.  It is very uncomfortable.

I posted on this once, but no one seemed to have anything similar.  I'm not glad this is happening to you, but glad that I'm not totally alone in the very weird sensation.

Make sure you tell the dr on your next visit, and please let us know what he says.  I am curious to know why this happens.
