BG-12

Has anyone heard when it will be available and if Biogen will help with the financing like they do with Tysabri?

This might be the answer for me, the way I wander around the country, not having to set up new infusion centers constantly!

Thanks guys!  I will bounce it off of my neuro in May then and ask him to line me up.  I'm back to looking for a new infusion center and have missed my January infusion.  So, I'm ok in the summer but in the winter, its heck to settle new infusion sites, takes at least a couple weeks, at least around here!

I could live with flushing and a upset stomach, I get the upset stomach anyway!

As to Biogen and financial assistance, I would imagine they will have a program in place.

The latest date I've seen for an FDA ruling is March 28. Of course this could change. The pricing info I've seen is "in line with other treatments", somewhere around $50,000/year.

It may be a new MS drug, but they have been using it in Germany to treat psoriasis for about 10 years. Its safety record is well documented. The risk/side effect profile is  substantially better than Tysabri's.

I've just tested JCV+ and may have to come off Tysabri. My doc says I would be an excellent candidate for BG-12. So I have my fingers crossed :-)

I've seen no news specifically about the release of Tecfidera (BG-12) since this thread a couple of weeks ago: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Multiple-Sclerosis/-BG12/show/1880374

From a Reuters article Monday on Biogen quarterly results, I see this reference to the second quarter (April-June), which supports our earlier thoughts. "The oral drug BG-12, to be sold under the brand name Tecfidera, is expected to become a leading treatment for multiple sclerosis after its planned second quarter introduction." http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/01/28/us-biogen-results-idUSBRE90R0KR20130128

If Tysabri (or whatever DMD folks already use) works, you might not necessarily want to be the first to rush to the new drug. There is seldom a free ride in terms of efficacy and side effects.
