Can pain/injury activate your symptoms?

Hi All,
I mentioned this at the bottom of another post, but I'm really curious so I'm giving my Q it's own post.  Has anyone experienced that pain, injury, or illness activates or enhances your symptoms?

I did a really stupid thing yesterday.  I thought a big meal with a chocolate chaser would calm me, and maybe help me not feel so tired.  Instead, I got a horrible stomach ache!  Now, I should have seen that coming.  But what I did not expect is as the pain in my stomach increased, so did the intensity of many of my symptoms.  It was one of the more frightening experiences I've had with this (whatever this is, as I am not diagnosed).  I considered caling an ambulance, but instead took some Pepto and waited a bit.  Thankfully, as my stomach calmed down, my symptoms returned to their normal level.

Just wondering if ppl had similar experiences?  Not with the exact same trigger, but in general, if some physical trauma or injury could set off symptoms?  It doesn't sound all that unlikely, since I know stress can aggravate symptoms.  Thanks to anyone who can share a similar experience or help me understand why this happened?

I think I've read on some of Quix's post and other websites that injury, illness, stress, fever/ colds and surgery can bring on symptoms or worsen symptoms. So, I would say, you bet it does!

Since I've had several surgeries in the last month, my neurological stuff is in full swing. I'm not DX like you though. Is a chocolate chaser an alcohol drink? I noticed that if I drank anything with alcohol when I was having SX it would make all my SX worse. When I first started having SX, it perferred my left side of my body. The next day after having that alcohol, the left side felt horrible and the right side of my body felt fine. It was like having two different bodies.

Take Care :)

No, it was just milk chocolate.  I was just being goofy.  I gave up drinking a couple months ago, once my symptoms started to annoy me a lot.  I feel very out of control of my body as it is, and the idea of drinking on top of it makes me uncomfortable.  When my symptoms get back under control, I may go back, since I always liked to have a couple beers on the weekend.

Thanks for the warning, though.  It pretty much confirms my gut instinct that I probably wouldn't enjoy alcohol right now.

Oops! Sorry. I guess that one went over my head. You have to forgive me because I'm still on pain meds. But like you said, it's a good warning.

I would say if you have MS, you were experiencing a pseudo flare up. It's not a true flareup because it goes away or the symptoms stop after you take away the the cause and you return to your normal level. Your body might have been stressed from the stomach pain causing your SX to get worse.
