Can someone help me figure this out?

I was diagnosed RRMS in Jan 2010. My symptoms were double/blurry vision, severe migraines/headaches, fatique, neck/shoulder pain, numbness/tingling down my right arm.
Now it is almost a year later, and I have not had a remission. In fact, things are worse, same symptoms as above plus now my hip/leg is very painful, I have spasticity in my lower leg, and the fatique has increased.
Is it possible not to have a remission? I read about people who go for years feeling fine after initial dx. Why haven't I had a remission?

My MS has had a relapsing-remitting pattern for some 20 years with long stretches between flairs.  Until 2009.  3 flairs in one year, and with the last flair in 11/09, I never recovered, and slowly, insidiously, I'm getting weaker and weaker.

As the others have pointed out, we're all different, and that's the nature of this MonSter.

Just a comment,  Neurovision is kind of weird.  You get ON and the nerves get damaged, and you may never improve even if the lesion remits. You can be in remission, but you may get some small percentage of you neurovision back.  Same thing happens with pain syndromes.  I have had intermittent pain in my left arm for over 5 years.

Most of my symptoms come and go.  Some (pain in the arm or burning in my feet) just seem to hang around.  I'm guessing that the ones that hang around are due to gliosis and the ones that come and go are due to demyelination.  AS long as the big ones come and go and IVSM keeps the big ones at bay, I'll take what I can.

Hi Daisy

The frustrating thing about MS is that there is no norm and how it affects each of us is individual.  So no-one will be able to tell you why you have not had a remission, but I am wondering if you have some days that are better than others?

My neuro said that some relapses last up to a year, but I also beleive that after a relapse we can be left with sx that do not go away. I expect that some other people will be able to throw more light onto this.

I am wondering if you are worrying that your dx of RRMS is not right and that it could be a different form of MS. All I can say is that I feel it would be best to air yoru concerns with your neuro next time you see him/her and just keep a journal of everything and particularly if any sx have got worse.

Sorry you are so worried and are having no respite from your ongoing symptoms.

Love Sarah x
