Please explain about lesions

I have seen several posts where the "poster" talks about lesions in certain locations.  All I know is that when an MRI was done the radiologist stopped counting at 30 lesions, that most were the size of a pea, and 5 were about the size of a quarter.  I have no idea what all this means.  Can someone please explain?

I am assuming that the location of these lesions determines the difficulties a person may be having.  That is only a guess, however.

This is all so terribly new to me.  Any help in understanding would be appreciated.

Beth

The original radiologist's report described the lesions in milimeters.  It said there were more than 30, and gave the sizes.  The neurologist showed them to me on the films, but that is all.  I am just trying to understand them better.  I did not know if the size is significant.  That is why I included it in my original question.

Maestro,

Hi there.  The HPs are a good read like for this like Red suggests.

Quickly though, lesions do not oftentimes correlate to symptoms.  Pea- and quarter sized descripts of your lesions sounds vague to me. Did the neuro describe them like this to you?  In MS location is oftentimes a clue to neuros during investigation. MS lesions often follow patterns (this info is in our HPs too).

It can be difficult to understand. We have had some great discussions on this very topic. I'll try to dig for a few and post them here.

Hi Beth,  There are several health pages that are dedicated to lesions.  I suggest reading through them.  The health pages are a great place to start understanding all the things that happen in a person with MS.
