thanks Quix. This helps. Time to go hat hunting. Oh those flourescents are the worst. I guess I have an excuse not to go back to school and sit in those classrooms :)
Take care

Hi, D, there is no treatment for the nystagmus, nor for the neurologic pupil dilatation. But, since dilated pupils let in too much light and too much information, you might look into lightly tinted glasses for indoor use or the ones that change with the amount of light. The second kind apparently only work outside as light through glass doesn't affect them.
For places with obnoxious overhead lights try wearing a baseball cap pulled way down over your brows. The cheap fluorescent lighting that many places use can cause terrible visual, mental, and physical fatigue with their slow refresh/flicker rate. Anyone with vertido may find that they fatigue mentally in large stores. This is a side effect of the vertigo and changes in the way the eyes compensate for loss of balance.
You might have to experiment in the house to see which lighting you do best with
good overall room lighting
dim room, good task lighting
ceiling lights vs lower lights
try replacing older fluorescents with newer higher cycle (hz) lights
Any lighting engineers out there?
