Flair?

Does anyone know if this sounds like a flair? I woke up yesterday morning with burning pain in both calves muscles very tight...through the course of the day it moved up both legs and ended up on the left side of my back to the point that my husband could see one side of my back larger than the other from the muscles bunching up also bad headach and eye with optic neuritis very blurry  and no change today it still hurts badly!

It really does sound like you are have spasms with spastcity, if it continues I would for sure let my PCP( I don't Have A Neuro) know. I agree with the info Bob just gave you.

You know if this feels different,  I believe in listening to our bodies.

Hope you start to feel better soon, sending you love filled hugs {{{{~!~}}} DJ

Sounds a lot like spasticity and some docs do not consider spasticity a relapse.  You have to as your doctors.  NMSS say something like 80% of PwMS experience spastisity as a symptom.  The problem is that if you had numbness in your feet and/or legs and then you get spasticity, it is related to the same sensory problem, and not really a "new" symptom, but a progression of an existing symptom.

When I get too hot and the weather is hot, I get that in the back of my legs and then it ripples for about 3 hrs and then if I can get cooled off, it will ease off.

The rule of thumb is that the return of sx or worsening (with or without a new sx) of sx needs to continue for at least 24-48 hours, for it to be a 'true' relapse/flair. One of the main reason for this 'time frame' is that its far too easy to physically over do it or hot weather interfearing etc and then experiencing a temperary worsening of sx, which will resolve with rest and cooling down, basically with out medical intervention.

If you are at all concerned it really doesn't hurt to contact your doctor, he/she may make the call of it being a relapse or deside to wait a few days before starting steroids if it doesn't settle on its own first.

Personally it can take me almost a week before i connect it to a 'true' relapse, a couple of days is usually my payback for 'over doing it' though some people know straight away, not sure how they know but they do. There is a health page on relapses that might be worth reading.

Cheers..........JJ
