I use a stabalized ground flax seed product to provide about 2/3 of my daily Omega-3 and a high quality fish oil capsule for the final third. The flax adds a pleasant nutty flavor to the small portion of yogurt I mix it with.
I use products with (if I remember right) a 6:1 ratio of Omega-3:Omega-6. I get plenty of O-sixes from my diet (they are easy for most of us) but don't eat nearly enough foods rich in O-threes to keep a good ratio going. Therefore, I supplement heavy on the Omega-3 side. That makes my supplements a bit more expensive but why go cheap if I end up paying for an overabundance of what I already have and remain deprived of what I need? Luckily, flax seed is an excellent alternative to fish oil when you're considering quality OR cost.
In addition to being heart healthy, extra Omega-3 can be good for joints, nerves and brain health. When I use it regularly I have little to no problems with irritable bowel or constipation. Without it? Not so much.

it won't hurt you. I put flax seeds in my bread when I make it, makes it crunchy and good
