Hi, No, all of your symptoms cannot be due to a pinched nerve at L5. Above I meant to say that the chiropractor canNOT know that you have apinched nerve from xrays.
The neurologist really needs the results of the NCS (also called NCV). Try to make sure whoever did it get the results to him/her or let you pick up the results and take them on Thurs. I'll try to add more maybe tomorrow. Today, well....let's just say I'm writing it off. Q
Hey Quix,
I want to thank you for all your help and helpful info. I appreciate it very very much. I went in today to redo the NCS on my hands/arms. It came back normal. So I'm confused why this came back normal while the leg/feet one was abnomal. My pain seems to be worse in my arms/hands than in my feet! The Dr said it looked like it was coming from my L5? Does that mean a pinched nerve? Can a pinched nerve be causing all my nerologic symptoms? I just have a hard time believeing a pinched nerve could be making me feel so strange and cause such pain. Anyways go in to the neuro on Thurs. Thanks again for your help.

Hi, I'm with you in spirit. Today is a veryweak day and I'm keeping answers to a minimum. The NCV only shows the function of the nerves from the time they leave the spine to where they end up. A pure diagnosis of peripheral neuropathy can be made only if they find where the damage begins. If they are looking to see why your foot is numb or weak, they test from the spine to the toes. If the nerve is conducting signals fine down to the knee and then messes up, they know the damage is at the knee and is peripheral (beyond the spine).
If all of the signals are messed up from the spine down, the question is whether there is pinching at the level of the spine or if the damage is higher (in the CNS - spine or brain). In that casde they need to do a SSEP, a SomatoSensory Evoked Potential. They can use this to trace the signal all the way up to the brain. If this shows a problem higher than the vertebra then something like MS has to be considered.
The chiro can know that you have a "pinched nerve" by Xrays. The Xrays can only suggest that there are abnormalities on the bone that "could" pinch nerves. Only on MRI or the testing I talked about above, can tell this. Your chiro may have right, but it would have been a lucky guess.
I wish you were so alone. I'll help with everything I can. I'll be back on later. Quix
