Just took my first "What the heck happened?" fall...

I just put baby down for her afternoon nap and was walking back down the stairs. We have a toy chest at the bottom of the stairs in place of a baby gate (the baby gate kept falling, and baby can't climb over the toy chest but the rest of us get over it fine).

Anyway, I'm walking down the stairs, and then next thing I know I'm flying through the air over the toy chest. I landed on my left lower leg (knee down to my foot) and my right hand. I'm ok...but I know I'll be pretty bruised and sore tomorrow!

I wish I could say I looked graceful during my fall....but I suspect I looked like an elephant tripping over a peanut LOL

Ren and everyone,

Yes, I'm doing ok now. I only had soreness and bruising, as I expected. Still have the bruises in fact. I did tell my neuro about it when I saw him last wednesday. He was very interested in it and asked lots of questions. He had me do the test where you stand with your feet together, arms out and close your eyes. My husband said I swayed pretty dramatically. It was after that that the doctor suggested I get the LP.

Thanks everyone for the hugs! They sure helped my poor bruised ego!

Jess,

Sorry to hear of your fall and hope you are only bruised, body and ego, both. Hope tomorrow's soreness will be minimal as well.

Been there done that before. Even before my dx, over 21 years ago I fell down the stairs over something imaginary.  I was 5 months pregnant and was carrying my 18 month old in my arms. Fell down the last 4 steps. Everything turned out fine but just wanted to chime in on Sarah's comment about how lucky you were not to have been carrying the baby.

Rest easy and if you need a load of peanuts sent your way , just let me know, lol.

Gentle hugs,
Ren

Hi Jess

Sorry you turned into Dumbo (your description...not mine) but at least you did not have the baby in your arms. Hope you are not too bruised and I guess your pride is probably more hurt than body as it is just a reminder of the unpredictability of MS and how we never know what to expect.

Love Sarah x

Oh dear.  I'm sorry about this, and I'm hoping you're okay - not too many bruises! :(

But I love the picture I've got now in my head of that elephant - love your humor here :)

I'm wishing you well -

I am sorry about your fall and hope you are ok.  I recently had the same "trip" and was SO Angry at myself.  Guess sometimes things just are what they are...

Healing thoughts to you,
Michelle

Trust me, go get the actual "Stair" gate - it works much better than most baby gates and it has the handle on it that my 3-1/2 year old just figured out. He is at the age that it really doesn't matter if he is going up and down the stairs, we keep it on in case of company and the dog.

I hope you heal quickly and that it doesn't happen any time again! Take care.

oh my, hope your feeling alright.  It's not fun having tumbles like that.  I no longer do any steps, I find it difficult when I visit someone that has stair to get into their home.  I can only do a few at a time and never by myself.

take it easy

I hope you are okay. I can no longer step over baby gates. I fell too many times. Since I was using it to keep my dogs out of part of the house with the cat stuff I took a bifold door cut it in half and made a secured half folding door. My husband was amazed at how good it looks and works.

Ouch! That is going to hurt. I have been doing that for years, but usually when going up stairs when I catch my foot on the riser. It is also much safer that way. :)

I can still remember the time when I feel down the stairs of my second floor apartment in Florida. I though for sure I was going to die that day as they were concrete stairs. End up just with some cuts, bruises, and sprains.

I sure hope all heals quickly and without too much pain.
