GOOD NEWS! Disability approved!

Thought I would share with you all the GREAT news I got today. The disability company who has taken 5+ months to make a decision called at 5pm to say I have  been approved!

What a relief. I had spent the day on the phone with attorneys and other consultants regarding protecting my ADA rights since it didn't look like my disability was going to be approved before Monday. No need for the long details just that I  am estastic the long wait is over.

This disability is provided by by company and is only for 2 years since it covers my disability only as it relates to my job description. After the 2 years it's the same as SSDI, unable to meet any job description.

Thank you for kind words. It's finally sinking in that I actually received the disability. The feeling is akin to get the original diagnosis...you want the answer but when it gets here you're not so sure it's what you really wanted to hear.

Congrats !!  I am happy for you, what a relief !!

I do remember how that feels except mine is permanent , it was the challenge approved for me really, it doesnt really help me much however, but I am fine with it.

And the process of just filling out the forms, took me two days and I think it caused more MS damage ..LOL...i was sick for days after..  And that was only the start..

My Dr told me later that they could have done all of the paperwork for me..sheesh, if only I had known.

take care and do something fun now for awhile..

In reading your posts, I realize some thing, I was accepted for SS-DI within the first eight months of DX, I was already using a wheel chair.. I believe for some reason they(Doctors) knew very early on I was Chronic Progressive. My Doctors told me I would never be able to work again, that I was permittly disable and would not improve.
How could they know that?
They did all the paper work and were the ones to suggest I get started on the paper work for SS-DI, they said it would take six months once approved to receive my first check, they were the ones to order the W/C before I needed it by three months or so. I lost them as my Doctors when my gov.Ins. started, because they didn't accept it.. the checks came first and than after some time the Ins kicked in

No one could believe how fast I was approved on the first try. I couldn't either, I had been told it might take years.MS was hard to get approved back than.
I wish I had my records and Dr. notes from way back than. Maybe this was just Our heavenly Father taking care of me??? I guess I'll never know for sure.

I hate that you all seem to be pushed around so much, it isn't fair, NOT ONE BIT ! !
May Be there is some thing we can figure out to do about it. WE are a fairly large group and should be able to all work together some how to make some changes to make our lives easier. Any Ideas out there????

Love & Hugs to all of you {{{{{{~!~}}}}} DJ

Ren, I am just so Happy this has been worked out in your favor. It's about TIME isn't it..
Get some rest and feel better soon...{{{~!~}}}

Thanks for comments and for the encouragment about returning to work someday. I've been off of work 5 months already and am bored stiff. I finally have enough energy to actually tackle some housework but this will get really old soon especially with my driving restrictions.

Did I miss your description and details of your NY trip or did you post it elsewhere?

I am so happy for you, what a relief this must be!  And remember with a disease like this, going on disability does not necessarily mean the end of your career.  I was off work for an entire year on my company short term disability plan, and on the verge of LTD when I was cleared to return.  We just don't know what the future will bring.  I have seen employees with chronic diseases resign themselves to a life of LTD, only to improve through better treatment or dumb luck or whatever, and come back to work.  Maybe not in the same capacity, but in something productive nonethless.

I bet you'll sleep well tonight having this stressor off of your mind.  Stress like that eats up a huge amount of energy that I'm sure you would rather be using on other things.

To Erin, Cass, Cyndi, NiCee and GG: Thanks for kind words thet are are very much appreciated !

To GG: This disability was only my company provided disability claim. I dread doing this with SSDI but will start that process on Monday as I have been out of work 5 months which is the minimum to be able to file or start the process. My company plan is good for 2 years so I hoping that either I will stay in remission or that SS thinks I have a valid complaint with the vertigo by the time my company disability is up. I had 3 attorneys in employment law tell me this week that I should make SSDI ...eventually.
I hope you feel better after the steroid pulse. Hang in there!

Last Tuesday, when I was falling apart so quickly and hard, the thought crossed my mind - Holy Smokes - I can't meet the demands of my job description!  And the demands are a lot (Echocardiography)!

I'm over my IVSM pulse on Monday, and I'm slowwwllly feeling better, but I may look into SSDI.  I just don't feel "disabled" enough, or I'm deluding myself.  I know, every day is different.  I'm hoping I can hang in there a while longer.

Again, congratulations!

My thanks to all of you for your congratulatory responses. It makes the disability even sweeter to have the support of everyone on the forum! Kinda like the icing on my chocolate cake that I ate on everyone's behalf. Don't worry...I consumed enough to cover a share for each of you :-)

Thanks also for all the Snoopy dances done on my behalf!

Hugs to all,

Ren
