Headache ?

I was diagnosed with Cluster Headaches when I was 16 and put on various muscle relaxers to try to help but they never went away. My doctor at the time said they couldn't give me anything else stronger because I wouldn't be able to function in school, so I stopped taking everything and just went on my merry way dealing with headaches everyday (after awhile you kind of get used to them!)

Now that I have been on DMD's I have noticed that my headaches aren't as easy to ignore and taking ibuprofen (which I take 800mg twice a day) does not help to even lessen them a little. So I e-mailed my doctor about it and she put in a script for TraMadol, in turn I had to tell her I was already on that for my back problems so she sent in a script for Naproxen. Personally I don't think this is going to help at all because I have never had good luck with it in non-script form but we shall see. She said if it doesn't work to call her in two weeks and she will have to put me on something to take everyday to prevent the headaches.

Anybody else see the problem here? I know DMD's can cause headaches and considering I already am known to get everyday headaches, don't you think she would just start with the preventative meds instead of an anti-inflammatory which is already what I am on?

Sorry I just had to vent a little because I already know I am going to be calling her in two weeks, I have a high tolerance to drugs and Aleve has never been better than Advil for me. I would rather stay on the ibuprofen but will give the naproxen a chance, maybe I will find it is better for some of the other inflammation I have? Thanks for listening to my vent!  MeLissa

The script is for 500mg and I looked it up yesterday to see that it was just Aleve in presciption form which is why I am dumbfounded since I was on 800mg of ibuprofen. I do have better luck with presciption drugs compared to OTC because Advil does nothing compared to my precription ibuprofen.

I just wish we could have started on the preventatives instead of the anti-inflammatory which we know does nothing. Plus the traMadol which I am already on, duh!

Sorry for the migraines, I can't imagine having those but believe it or not cluster headaches can be as bad sometimes! Hopefully these is relief in both of our futures!

Aleve is naproxen at 200mg. A script is the same medication probably at a higher dose. Do you know what mg she is giving you? It would be the same as taking more of the OTC Aleve to equal the prescription mg dosage.

I have a history of migraines and no OTC med can touch them. I have been on many preventatives too. I haven't been able to find one that works for me. I do take maxalt as an abortive. It works some of the time.

Sorry for what you are going through...I hope you find relief.
