Hi, everyone, I'm home! Disneyland was fun!

I've missed you all!

I've been running on Provigil and adreneline, and I'm starting to run down, even with the Provigil in my system.

I had a wonderful time at Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure with my best friend, her daughter, son-in-law, and her three grandsons, ages 8, 8, and 7.  It was kind of difficult to have a wonderful time, but I managed.  I was able to quietly state that, no, I wasn't staying at the parks until midnight, I could watch the fireworks from the walkway outside our hotel rooms.

I went on Splash Mountain, Grizzly River Run, and a bunch of simpler rides.  When the family packed up and drove up to Universal Studios one day, I stayed behind and took it easy, went to the parks around noon, found some healthy food, and rode things like Monsters Inc. Mike and Sulley to the Rescue! and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, the Disneyland Railroad, and just had fun like a 46 year old kid.  Oh, yeah, and I ate my chocolate covered frozen banana with nuts, just like I remembered from my trip when I was 9.  I'll post a picture I took of myself with my cell phone while eating that banana.

We had Thanksgiving Dinner at the ESPN Sports Bar; I had a Southwestern grilled chicken salad; yummy!  Definitely non-traditional, but fun.  The boys got to play games upstairs while we waited for a table.

On the first full day, my BF rented a scooter (bad knee and lower back), which was really more trouble than it was worth.  The crowds were thick, it was hard to find a place to park the scooter, and she got one with an uncomfortable seat and a battery that was defective.  I followed her across all of Disneyland to help her exchange it, and found I was pushing myself too hard.  My legs felt like lead, and my right leg was a mass of pain. She looked back at me, and made me ride the danged scooter; apparently my whole body was shaking and my face was an odd color.

I've had some sinus issues going on; the day before we left, it became really bad; probably added a virus.  Stuffy head, sore throat, green instead of yellow nasal discharge, and lots of it.  I lost my voice for a couple of days; I was hard to understand for most of the trip.  My chest felt heavy, and I woke myself coughing stuff up (ick, too many details!).  I was careful not to share my germs, though I thought it was my sinus infection worsening.

I slept like a log, even with an 8 year old boy in the room.  After the Provigil wore off, the fatigue knocked me out.  After the family left (BF and I stayed an extra day) I even slept so soundly I woke myself up by peeing in my bed; luckily (ha ha) I also had a heavy period for the trip, so my nighttime pad caught the urine.  Sheesh!

The trip back took 10 hours, total, from returning the car, eating and shopping at the OC airport, that plane being late, and we then spent an extra three hours in the San Jose airport, as many flights were delayed and messed up all sorts of schedules.  It's not a fun airport.  I recharged my phone and Game Boy, and watched people having fits about flight delays, including two SouthWest employees.  There was a girl with a Miss Oregon sash around her, a guy trying to sign people up for a credit card that was laughing hysterically; what an evening!  I had a Burger King grilled chicken sandwich, no mayo, for dinner; need I say more?

I called my catsitter when I found out about the delays, and she watched Fluffy until I picked him up after my physical therapy appt. today.  First he hid under the bed when I showed up, meowed all the way home, and now he won't leave my side.  He went to sleep in his bed in the closet, then woke up meowing, and checking to make sure I'm still here.  I missed him, too!

I picked up my mail, and discovered that my insurance has denied my Provigil; they only cover it for sleep apnea, shift work sleep disorder, narcoleplsy only when other treatments are not options.  "We have not identified adequate medical literature to support the use of Provigil for your diagnosis".  Oh, poop!

My PCP wants me to take Vitamin D supplement; mine is in the good range, according to the lab, but she wants mine to be at 60.  What's the best kind of supplement to get?  She wants me to take 1000 units daily.  I remember this was covered not long ago; I can search the forum.

It's good to be home, both physically and back in touch with my forum family.  I'll have to catch up on what I missed this past week!

Hugs,

Kathy

Wobbly, that spa/casino Xmas get-away for you and your hubby sounds wonderful; you just wander around the casino until you find the right table or machine for you to win big, then celebrate with a couples spa treatment, heavenly!

I can't believe I did all I did; I kept track of how many steps I put on my pedometer, and it was amazing, almost like the old me (a little slower and way more painful, but I kept going).

Shell, I'm hoping my PCP is working on it.  I'll call and check in with her office today.  She has seen me coming in for each appointment saying "I'm so tired" for so long and we could never figure out why, until the blatant neurological sx and my pretty brain MRI.  Her opinion is that I have something called "cerebral white matter disease".  She was very happy that the free trial Provigil was so helpful.

My MS specialist actually prescribed it, but wanted my PCP to follow-up, as she doesn't want to have to see me every month :o).

I wonder what diagnosis was used that they said that Provigil did not have adequate medical literature to support it's use?  Dr. Y. suggested I try Ritalin if my insurance didn't cover the Provigil, but I'm not too thrilled by the thought of an amphetamine.  I guess I should go research it, as I do like being more awake and alert.  I suppose if they denied THAT the generic would be cheap enough for me to afford.

Things will work out.

Welcome home Kath!

I'm glad you had a great time.  I can't believe your insurance denied the meds. Is your Dr. going to straighten this out for you?  "We" the insurance Drs have  not found adequate evidence..." Those nitwits are not even treating you.

I hope the Dr who prescribed it is willing to put together something smart and fire it off to them.

It's nice to have you back.
