Hi all,

I finally got home on Saturday after 10 days in the hospital.

Still going to take a while to recover - I see what they mean about 'major abdominal surgery' and the amoebiasis sure knocked me around as well.

I have to be different and am now dealing with post-epidural neuralgia on part of the incision site and one leg.  Quite agonising and much worse than anything I experienced last year.  Still early days and hoping it will settle down quickly.  I've been started on very high dose Vit b1, 6 and 12 for the pain.  So little is safe during pregnancy.

But the good thing is that the original pain from the appendicitis (that no one believed was appendicitis - they were still arguing even as I was going into surgery - as insisted by my OB) is completely gone after 3 long months and once I am recovered from this surgery I should be pretty fine.

I'm feeling well enough to catch up on internet and mail now, so that's surely a good sign.

Take care all.

Sally

Hey, Sal, I send best wishes that all the bad part is behind you, and that smoothe sailing is ahead. You have more 'gumption' than most people dream of having, and you make your life work. I bet little Peanut Person will inherit these great traits!

Keep us posted,

No further doctors required.  Got 3 on my team (other than the surgeon who I hope never to see again after this followup next week) who'll be following closely for the rest of the pregnancy and after, I guess.

Take care all.

Thanks for your wonderful support.

Am feeling better each day.  Can't stand or walk far or long, but at least the pain is reducing and I can feel myself recovering.  It is such a relief that the 3 months pain is finally gone.  That was so wearing. Hope they really got the amoebiasis properly and there are no more complications.

This baby is sure gonna have some stories.  Don't mind waiting til Feb. I just want to feel well.  I want to enjoy this second trimester and feel good before I get big and pregnant - by which time I'm sure I'll be eagerly and nervously awaiting the delivery of my baby.  (I get goosebumps and feel a little teary every time I say that "My Baby").

Love you all.

Still having nausea, but I think that's from the Flagyl (drug for the amoebiasis).  Between the surgery and the amoeba attack I had no nausea.  Maybe the nausea was from the appendicitis not the pregnancy!

Anyway today's the last day of the Flagyl so I'll know in the next day or two.  Already up to 2nd trimester so pregnancy related nausea should be less anyway.

Oh Sweetie, I'm so glad your home!!!  And very glad to hear that you can work from home, that is wonderful.  And get all the rest you can now, when baby comes, the word rest wont come until the little one starts sleeping through the night.  :):):)

Was the amoebiasis causing your awful morning sickness, too?  Or has time cured that anyway?  I hope you and Peanut have a wonderful easy time from here on out.

I hope and pray that you have gotten all the unpleasantness out of the way and you will breeze through the rest of this pregnancy.  When your child is older, you will really have some stories to tell them.  This is one strong baby you are carrying.  They have come through alot, unscathed and thankfully so has their mommie, for the most part.  At least they found what was wrong and can keep working to get it all fixed.

Hurry up February...I'm sure you are saying the same thing.  It will be great to finally hold that little one in your arms.

Keep the chin up and glad to hear that you are receiving such good care thanks to your Mom.  Aren't mom's great?

Many Blessings and Much Love,
Heather

Thanks for your comments & encouragement all.

Sure has been an unpleasant experience. Understatement!

Amoebiasis is nasty alright.  It seems I also had liver involvement, ; with a small lesion that was enlarging - explains the upper abdominal discomfort too. No wonder they couldn't define what was wrong.... appendicitis, collitis, liver involvement.... They'll do a followup to see if the flagyl has worked for everything.

Unfortunately I can't take complete time off work - I am the manager of a small company - but i will be on reduced hours & flexitime, as required, plus I can work from home. I know this is going to take a lot of extra rest to get over.

My "Mum" is hovering.  She's been wonderful.  She's been sending food over daily.  She's also been sending her helpers (I am so lucky to be in Phils where we have great house help) over to check on me, on the nights my helper is not here.

Good to have you home!  Will you have adequate time off from work to heal now?  You need a good month after the surgery, running the bowel and the amoebiasis.  I hope you take it.

Yes, definitely, the amoebiasis was the likely cause of the chronic appendicitis.  It is known to cause secondary cr*p like that.

Well, we get you for a while then.  That's great.  Is your "mum" hovering?
