Back Ache and weakness

Hi Everyone, hope you are all doing ok.  Just been catching up with the recent posts....I missed a big dedate didn't I...!

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else gets really bad back ache?  It's almost like my lower spine has no strength.  I know this is probably causing further strain on my back which could be adding to the pain but it's just becoming stupid now.

Also, I've had numbness and pain in my hips/groin area for sometime time now, that's how my journey started but now if I sit or lie in certain positions my hands and legs go totally numb again ususally followed or with pins and needles.  I thought it may just be the way I am sitting/lying but it's happening all the time now.  I'm going away on Sunday for 2 weeks in an attempt to get my head around all of this and to remove myself from anything medical but I am really worried about the travelling etc with this pain and numbness. The doctor gave me the once over today to put my mind at rest but I am a little concerned.

On the mri I first had done (with contrast) they did found a number of lesions in my thorasic spine so I guess there is something going on but it just seems to be going on and on and on.

Any advice woud be greatly appreciated...!

Many thanks

Em

Hi Everyone, thanks for replying, you are all great and reassured me alot.

The idea of going away does worry me abit as i'm going to be taken out of my comfort zone and the four walls which have almost protected for the last few months but I feel I do need to do this, not just for me but for my husband aswell.  He has been wonderful through all of this and we tried to keep laughing but it's not been easy as I am sure you all understand.  Worried about the heat and travel but I have a suitcase full of tablets etc which I try not to take as I'm not one for popping pills but I know they are there if needed...which is what I keep thinking about.  I just have a vision of my legs going numb on the flight, as they do that alot these days, I bet I then need the loo, I'll be in the loo on the plane then the turbulance will start...you never know I might end up on the lap of some handsome man...he he!!!

Pat - good to hear from you. Hope you are doing ok? I know what you mean about the numbness and sore hips...not nice.  It's feels like you have done a marathon doesn't it. What you said about pre-occupying your mind is so right and really the main reason I am going.  I was told to do a daily record of my symptoms but I found I was just becoming obsessed with the new and wonderful freaky things my body does, so I stopped doing it. The break was do to exactly what you said. Thanks again. x

Carol - Hi how are you doing.  I hope you are doing ok after your awful experience.  Really good to have you back, we were getting concerned about you.  In answer to your question I did have an MRI on my brain.  The problem is, which I have discussed with Quix, that I had only one mri done with contrast and this was the one that found the lesions.  This one was done about 12 hours I lost all feeling in my left leg and pelvis at this point I really didn't have any other symptoms about from tinnitus.  I had 2 other scans done without contrast about a week later but still at this point I only has the initial symptoms although I had had a few electric shocks down my back.  Since then my body seems to have gone into independent party mode...!  I'm going to see the ms dr when I get back and they have said they want to repeat the mri as it's been about 3 months since the last one was done. Hope you have a good few weeks and I'll catch up with you when I get back. x

Hi Sam - how's it going?  I think the last time we chatted you were going to have an mri?  Is that right?  Have you had the results yet?  How did Lego Land go?  Hope the kids are trying not to kill each other too much at the moment?  Thanks again for the previous chats, it is really good to talk to fellow uker's...we can slag the NHS off together. I'll catch up with you when I get back but look after yourself and remember things will be easier when the schools start up again...try and have some YOU time, you deserve it.  X

Hi Rick, good to hear from you.  I don't think we have chatted before so it's lovely to meet you.  I know what you mean about the worry of returning to work.  My neuro has been great, as have my work as before this I had had only 2 days off sick in 4 fyears..!  I've spoken to my work about a gradual return to work when the time comes, both my dr and neuro recommended this...could you do this?  Anyway, that's next week and now is the weekend...party on I say.  Hope you have a great break, you deserve it.  Hope we can chat more when we both get back.  Take care x

Thanks again everyone, you are just so wonderful.  I will miss you when I'm away but I'll try and sneak a quick look at the posts in an internet cafe or something...out of the heat.

Thanks again, take care everyone.

With love

Em

I going away for the weekend myself and almost for the same reasons as you. I have numbness, tingling and muscle pain in my legs also. It's not terribly bad yet, but at least you have and idea where the problem is coming from. My MRI'S have been clear and I still have these lingering problems with my legs and arms. I'm trying to get it off my mind, but I'm going back to work next week and I wonder how I'm gonna hold up. So I'm a little scared that if this get worst, I'm going to have to take a medical leave or worse file for a disability pension. So I guess my advice to you and to myself is, let's forget about this for the weekend and worry about tomorrow when tomorrow comes.

All the best and enjoy your weekend, Rick

You hurt in the exact same places that I do.  My back has gotten where I can stand a little longer since I've been takeing physical therapy but when it starts hurting the only thing to ease it up is to sit down.

Did they do an MRI of the brain also?  If they did was there any lesions there?  I also have the pins and needles but they don't go away.  I've given up on that.

You go and have a good trip and try not to worry to much about all of this.  I know that's easier said than done but at least try.

I'll be praying,
Carol

Don't know much about the t-spine and lesions.  I do have bad lower back pain along with hip pain.  I don't have any numbness in my back or hips though.

I sleep on my side and I awake with sore hips and have to switch sides over and over.

My fingers/hands will go numb during the night, but I have been told it's ulnar nerve/carpal tunnel.

Enjoy your vacation and try to put all of this on the back of your mind!!  Try not to worry!  I know when my mind is preoccupied with other things, my symptoms don't seem as bad to me.

Enjoy yourself and let us know how your vacation went!!

Take care!  Pat :)
