So sorry you are having such difficulty. And sorry for the loss of your father. You've been through a lot and I hope things turn around for you.
It's difficult when you know what you want to say but the words just don't come to the forefront.
Is June National Appointment Month???? It seems everyone has an appointment in June. I'd take Suzanne's advice and see if you can get in on a cancellation, if that works with your schedule.
((((BIG HUG))))
Wanna
Ill take all hugs!
Lynette
Just wanted to give you some cyber-hugs and I hope your neuro can help you!
I'd be a bit ticked too if your doc hasn't responded to your EEG test!!
Take care, Pat :)
THANKS YALL SO MUCH! I will try to get in to see my neuro. I know I put it in my timeline!
I HAD AN EEG DONE AND I CALLED FOR THE RESULTS AND THE DOCTOR HAS NOT SEEN IT AND IT HAD BEEN A WEEK ALREADY!
So I will call this week and find out!
Thank yall for the encouragement and everything.
LYnette
Thanks Rena, it is very frustrating. I will talk to my neuro about it. My appt not until june I may tell them on the phone to see if I can get in faster. I think I do need something for my fatigue. and especially my talking and/or brain!

Hi Honey and I am so sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your speech. I too have a speech problem but my dr. is concerned that it may be related to the overmedication that I had last year. However, I have the trouble with word retrieval and slurring of speech and it seems using opposite words for the real one i.e. black for white, open for close, etc.
My speech deteriorates noticeably when I am fatigued and when I am stressed. I am fortunate in that the people close to me have taken it in stride and are pretty much able to make out what I have said and can repeat it back to me to make sure. I understand your frustration though and it is very scary! Next to our eyesight I think our speech is 2nd in line as the things we take for granted and until that ability leaves us we just expect it all to work correctly.
Perhaps if you explain to your husband and family members that this may be a part of your illness and while it might not occur all of the time to please not be surprised if it does. This is what I have told my friends and they are making the effort to fill in the blanks and make sense of what has come out without making a big deal out of it. This is very helpful and I have told them so.
We all know that we need support from our families and friends and this is a PRIME example of when that support is essential. Talk to your family honey and then talk to your doctor about it...if it is related to MS apparently there are things that can help. I may be looking at speech therapy but I figure whatever works...works for me!
Lots of Hugs,
Rena
It is sooo frustrating. The wrong word comes out to for me. do you ever try to put like 3 letters on a word and its not right? like put psyride put the psy on it it is sooo crazy!
Lynette
I have the same problems sometimes. My doc recommenced to try MEMANTINE 5mg for the speech and eyes issues I have. Well seems to work for me ,sometimes .
I'm so sorry, Lynette, that you're having this symptom. Aphasia (not being able to come up with a word), or saying the wrong word, are both very common with MS. It's kind of like a short circuit. What makes it worse is that then you can get shy and stop talking, or at least curb what you naturally would want to say, and that makes for isolation and sadness.
I hope you will seek medication for this. It's sure worth a try.

LOL, Suz!
That's how I deal with it too.....My son and I have a game about it....
And hello, by the way!
:)
You sound so worn out....and I'm wondering when your next appt. might be? Maybe you can call and see if they'll fit you in if there's a cancellation.
I too have had wacky words come out. I like to think I have a great sense of humor, and try to laugh it off. (Telling a daughter to put a colander under my feet, and I meant the hassock!)
However, there comes a time when it isn't funny, it's frightening. And that's when you need to go tell the dr. what is going on.
Let us know what happens, okay?
Suzanne
Lynette:
I totally understand how you're feeling and what you're going through....The cognitive side of this is probably one of the worst things I'm dealing with.
What I hate the most is NOT being able to find the word that I want to say, and it's usually, like you said, the simplest word in the English language. There have also been several times that I had the RIGHT word in my head, and a millisecond later, it came out of my mouth as something else!
I am so sorry that this is frightening for you.....I hope you feel better soon.
Tammy
Thank you so much. Yes, I have fatigue. I never get anything done. I may start it but dont finish it. I have had a problem with it for a long timer now. I will ask the doctor about it.
Lynette
I am so sorry that you're having problems. This is the one problem that I hate the most. I've had some very embarrasing incidents at work because of it--it makes me look like have mental retardation or I've come to work drunk!
I have found a little help with some medicines. Provigil has improved this (and fatigue). The problem is worse when I'm fatigued. The stress is an indirect cause of the problem. When I'm stressed, I don't sleep. When I don't sleep for a while, it causes me to be fatigued more than I already am (I'm always fatigued) and will sometimes bring on an attack.
Talk to your doctor about this problem. There might be a good medicine to take.
