LESION IN BRAIN. IS IT NORMAL?

Hey Guys!

It's me again, and again, and again!  I guess I have alot of issues, and until I see the neuro in Sept, I really need you guys to help me through this.
Okay,  I have a lesion in the Basal Ganglia area in my brain.  That's what I was told.  Does anyone here have a lesion there too.  I was told by 2 neuros that this was normal and my mri was normal.  The report also said that I have either an arachanoid cyst, pressing on my pituitary, or empty sellar syndrome, they did blood work and they said pituatary is functioning fine.  Anyway, what does it matter right the neuros with the medical degree said my brain scan was normal.  Ms was a consideration at the beginning, by the radiologist, but the neuro squashed that, and said no.  Meanwhile I have all of these symptoms, that I just don't know what to do with.
At first my 2nd neuro said parkinsons, then he said something about degenerative basal ganglia disease. But he never told me that, when I told him I was moving, he put that diagnosis on the last bill I needed to pay him.  I think I scared him cause at my last visit, I kept harping on the lesion, because everyone I spoke to said it wasn't normal. So the coward didn't tell me about this new diagnosis to my face.  Anyway, I think I have been misdiagnosed, and am seeing an ms neuro, plus my sister was just diagnosed ms 6 months ago.  Now am having problems with my eye, eye pain, so I am seeing an opthalmalogist this monday.
Does anyone here also have a lesion in the basal ganglia area of the brain?  Is this normal, does everyone get them?
That's what they told me, everyone gets them.  Sorry about all the other explanation, though, this is how it all came about.   Any thoughts guys!  Love you all, hope everyones well today!  Sandie

Hey Karen,

Thanks for replying.  Yeah, some further symptoms that  I didn't have then are popping up now.  But it is so frustrating when you can tell by looking at their face, that they don't know what to tell you.  Anyway, I did have the mri's with contrast, and I have copies of every single film and report.  When I do see my neuro, he has alot to read. Yeah some of my symptoms are: numbness and tingling, all over my body. muscle spasms, my left calf is always numb, Lhermettes sign, as diagnosed by my neuro, eye pain and burning. tremors internal and out of my body. vertigo, lip and tongue tingles and numbness, facial pain and numbness, bladder incontinence or leakage, studdering and cog memory prob, etc, etc.  anyway I some of these symptoms started after my last visit.  But we'll see what happens.  I'm gonna try and think positive thoughts.  thanks sandie

Hi Sandy.  I would not put any weight on what this 2nd neuro told you.  He is all over the page with his remarks.  There are significant differences in how parkinsons, ms, and other degenerative diseases present themselves.  My guess is that he had to write SOMETHING as a diagnosis on the billing paper.  What else is he going to write?  "Duh, I don't know."  It is unprofessional to run off at the mouth in such a manner, obviously because he is causing you unnecessary worry.

As difficult as it is, try to relax and get your answers as they come. I am glad you will be seeing another neurologist and opthalmologist soon.

Was your MRI done with contrast?  Get a copy of that MRI - both the film or CD and the written report. You can obtain them yourself or get them released and sent over to your new neuro.

I don't recall all of your symptoms.  It would peak the neuros interest that your sister has MS.  The MS neuro can put that to rest or at least point you in another direction if needed.

Keep us posted.  Good luck to you.
