Help Please???????

Hi, I figured I would turn here since I am so very frustrated with the medical world. I am 34 year old female. In May of 2011 I was diagnosed with MS. I decided to get a second opinion with the encouragement of my mother. A second neuro undiagnosed me. He pretty much told me that I had nothing neurologically wrong with me. Well I decided at that point I would quit trying atleast for the time being. It wasnt long after I was undiagnosed that most of my symptoms subsided. Well it is now 10 months later and a lot of my symptoms are back and causing so much stress. My fatigue is the worst of them. I am extremely exhausted at all times. I can sleep just fine. I can sleep up to 12-13 hours. It doesnt matter the amount of sleep I get or dont get I am still beat at all times. I am taking no doz just to try to stay awake enough to work but its not even really working anymore. Besides the fatigue I have lost almost all my grip strength in my hands. They did a test to see if I had carpel tunnel and I did not. I have numbness in my legs and arms at various times and I have muscle cramps in my legs and feet at random times. I usually get the cramps in my legs while I am sleeping and the ones in my feet which are not as frequent during the day. I have had numerous other symptoms but these are they ones that are affecting me right now. I have had more blood work than I can name. I have been to a rheumatologist along with the neuros and I am just as lost as ever. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this.

First off I want to start by saying I know what you mean about being frustrated with the medical world. But I will have to agree with Tom and Kyle, you have to keep trying to get answers. I have been in undxs for four yrs now. My Nero thought I had MS but I was dropped from my medical program.

As for if it is severe depression, only you know your body. A few doctors tried to tell me mine was stress, but I knew better. My Nero found some indicators that I have an autoimmune disorder of some sort. He also found a lesion on part of my brain that is affecting my leg. We all have stress, and feel depressed sometimes, but only we know if what our body is going through feels like stress or depression.

Best advice I can give is no matter how frustrated you get don't give up on finding answers. To me it is more frightening not to know what's wrong then to know and be able to setup a plan to help you cope through. So don't let nothing get in your way or discourage you. And if you need to vent about the dumb medical world, you can vent to me. Praying for you, and everyone in this forum.

May God Bless You,
Kimberly

Severe depression can also give the same symptoms.  There is not a great deal online, but major depression presents symptoms like memory loss, neurological symptoms.  From the inside your body may feel numb or you may have trouble with with arms or legs not functioning properly,  eye issues, etc.  If you look up MS you would swear you have it based on the symptoms.  Research pseudo-seizures and pseudo-neurological disorders,  the mind is very powerful and can display many pseudo-neurological symptoms.

I hope you find a solution to you issues and get some needed relief.

Hi -

I'm with Tom. On what basis were you diagnosed, and then undiagnosed. In addition to the all important clinical exam, MS has certain 'smoking guns' that typically appear on MRI and in lumbar puncture results. Have you had either, or both?

First off, I'm really sorry that you are having symptoms and you have no idea what is causing them. I was there for years myself. I can only imagine how frustrated you are...

Has your neurologist given you MRIs of your brain and c-spine with and without contrast?  Have you had a Lumbar Punture? If you are concerned about MS, these are common ways of finding out whether or not you have it. Is there another neurologist you can see? There are other tests they can do as well. I am not sure of the availability where you live but there are neurologists who specialize in MS. Maybe you could check into one of those....

I really wish that I could tell you what you have but unfortunately I am not a doctor. As frustrating as it is, you are doing the right thing by seeking out medical help.

I hope you find some answers soon.

Best,

Tom
