MRI's - types needed??

Yesterday my dr. (MS specialist) ordered an MRI, with and without contrast, of the brain and cervical.  He was saying this out loud to the young lady assisting him, she was writing it down, and my husband was also writing it down!

I was able to have this MRI yesterday, same day as my first appt. with him (yahoo, point in their favor!)

What are the parts of the MRI that need to be checked? The T is for thoracic, correct? And C is for cervical, which he did mention.

Now if he did NOT mention thoracic, BUT, I was told by the MRI lady not to swallow while they did the MRI on my throat, does it follow that they tested my thoracic area?

And guess what, right after she tells me to not swallow, to hold still, I swallowed!! SEVEN TIMES. A few minutes later she tells me to hold still, don't swallow, so I don't know if it was a continuation of the same test, or a retake of the 7-times one. And I "only" swallowed four times. ARGH.

Will this mess up any results?

Thanks,
Suzanne

Yes, they did a brain and cervical, with and without contrast.

All total, I think it took about half an hour.

One part I was warned it was going to get reallllly loud and reallllly shaky, the table would move. No kidding, my fillings were rattling. I was curious as to what part of the test that was, and the lady was so vague, "oh, that's the MRI of your brain".

Duh.

Hi There!

Her telling you not to swallow is because they are taking pics of the C-spine.  They will have to keep re-taking the pic you kept swallowing on.  A normal 20 min cycle becomes much longer till they get the pic.  Dont worry. If it was really bad, they would have sedated you or something I would think.  Did they do  the brain too?  Hope all goes well for you.  Take care!
