MS, Degenerative Disc Disease, and Pregnancy

Would it be advisable for a woman who is forty years old, has both RRMS and Mild Degenerative Disc Disease, to have a baby? Are there others out there who have gone through the same thing and could give some advice on this matter? My husband and I have no children. We don't know what to do. We feel like our final window of opportunity to try and have a child is closing or might be closed. Thank you for any advice we receive.

If you really want a baby and the doctor says there is no issue for you or the baby I would go for it. No one can predict the future. I personally did not have children because of genetic issues not related to MS. Also I did not want a child as they grew up to have a disabled mother and possibly become a caretaker. I was worried about how expensive my illness would be. In my case my MS has not costed much or progressed so I guessed wrong.

It turns out I have the rare genetics for a bad cancer  called BRCA, I did not know about when I got my tubes tied. I am glad to not pass that on to another generation.

The point is no one knows what the future holds for any family so if you want a child have one.

Welcome to this community.  We are a group of people both diagnosed with MS and undiagnosed, but not medical people.  As what you are contemplating is a fairly major decision, even for the healthiest of us, my advice would be to get some advice from your MS Specialist and/or an OB/GYN to be on the safe side.  That said, there are people in this community who have had babies in their 40s and coped ok.

Best wishes with your decision
