Baclofen query.

Hi all,
Today I went to see my consultant and because of things progressing with whats going on with me he has prescribed me with the muscle relaxant Beclofen. I'm wondering if anyone had any advice on this medication especially if there is anything to be wary of with them. I have read the leaflet showing what side effects but it's sometimes easier to chat to some people who are actually taking it.
Hope this is ok.
Thank you
T

I still have the increased tone in one arm and both ankles but I was noticing some muscle weakness in arms and legs so my neuro said we should try going on the Baclofen for a bit.

Since the worst of my issues seem to be in colder weather, I figure it's worth a shot. He actually didn't mention weaning off it but I had read online that it usually needs to be gradually increased and decreased so slow and steady.

I'm actually thinking that I might be like Alex and it didn't work for me. I still had the increased tone while taking it and just assumed that it would be worse if I wasn't. I have been off of it almost 2 weeks now and it is not any worse.

Good luck with it!

Hi,
thanks Alex,
All this is so new to me, I'm so grateful for any advice.
I can keep a different eye on things now which will hopefully make all this easier to take.
The driving is on hold at the moment,  unfortunately my legs don't work properly for walking at moment.    Hahaha.  I'm determined to get back in my car though.
Thankyou again for replying as I can keep an eye on it.
Take care

Usually you stay on them long term unless you are just having a relapse and the muscle spasms stop. Baclfen did not work for me , but it works for most people. I have been on another muscle relaxer for 5 years now. They may make you sleepy at first. Watching driving at first they can make you spacey.

Hi,
thanks Corrie,
I've just taken my first one, so here goes,  haha.
I'm on a low dose, one a day for a week, then two a day. To start me off.
Hopefully then keeping me on that being a low dose until needed.
That was the other thing from reading your message, how long do people stay on them?  Or is it very much as long as they've done what they should you slowly get taken off them?
Sorry to still be a newbie. Hahaha

Hi there, a lot of folks here use Baclofen. I used it for about a year to relieve tightness from some muscles from spasticity.

I did not notice any side effects but never took more than 20 mg a day so maybe it wasn't enough to cause side effects?

Others will chime in I'm sure,

Corrie
