Menstration and MS

i don't know if you'll know the answer, but is it usual for symptoms to become less severe during my period, and then to become more severe a couple of days after my period ends. i have a lot of twitches as i call them, but it seems that when I am on my period that they subside for the most part. Then a few days after my period ends my twitching is quite severe, and tends to lessen a few days later, but they never completely go away.
Thank you for you time

an old post, but i was going to ask the very question!

i've noticed as my cycle has swung around twice since having these symptoms, increased pain and an increase in certain paraesthesia two days before my period.

wonderful archives!  wow.

Thanks for posting this! I was wondering about this.
I had my tubes tied after twins 22 years ago, so no birth control.
But I have noticed different things in the past year.

Thanks for your comments. it is good to know that i am not the only one who experiences this issue. No i am not currently on birth control i stopped taking it when my husband left for his deployment. We are talking about trying to have a baby when he comes home. I had the same issues when i was on birth control so i don't know if that'll help but i'll certainly talk to my doctor about it thanks

I have a couple of days right before my period when I feel full of energy, and things seem to be almost normal... and then the period hits and I feel like I'm in a relapse.

Hi there! Alex is right that hormones do affect MS. We have had polls here on the forum about it.

Are you taking birth control? Some people say that it is better when they do because it keeps them more constant.

Maybe you should bring it up to the doctor just to be safe.

Good luck
Erin :)

Women's hormones do have an affect on MS. There are studies on this very fact. I went to an MS Society lecture by a researcher.  They have even studied using etrogen for MS. The draw back is they could not use it for long because it suppresses the immune system.
