Delayed MS Reactions???

Hey all!
I am wondering if anyone else or everyone else has delayed reactions to stressful situations.  My Mom was in hospital last week with heart problems and then my tooth broke apart last Thursday and I had all weekend to stew about getting it pulled Monday.  Last night after having my tooth pulled, I had the worst pain in my head I have ever had.  I have Trigeminal Neuralgia but this was different in that the usual ice pick in the temple was there but it seemed like a lightening bolt of pain travelled across the top of my head every time I got the pain in my temple.  I had a nasty headache as well and it even prevented me from sleeping last night.  I have never had a headache keep me awake.  Also, my myclonic jerks were just jerks...he he...seriously I could have been on America's Got Talent for the moves my body was making!!   Then just as I would start to drift off to sleep the hubby would let out a snore that would wake the dead!!  Yeah, I am tired today and have even had a couple of naps!

It seems that when I do have symptoms it is after any stressfull situation has occurred and it's usually about a week before these symptoms occur and they hit with a vengeance.  I am just curious if this is the norm or am I just abnormal?  he he

Hugs,

That there is a delay from the stressful event to experiencing worsened symptoms is I think somewhat of a coping mechanism.  During a stressful situation, you need to keep your wits about you and stay strong in order to get through it.  Only after it's over and you're no required to be wary and on guard, and after you've had some time to absorb and reflect on all that has transpired, do you allow yourself a little meltdown or possibly even a full blown panic attack, or in this case, an amplification of your physical symptoms.  PTSD is perhaps an extreme example of this dynamic.  My guess is that this is an adaptive mechanism that has been built into us since caveman days.  Not sure if this makes any sense....but I hope you feel better soon Rena, and take as many naps as you need!!  xoxoxo

I don't know if it's stress that causes it, but the tooth breaking could certainly cause a mini-relapse.  When I get sick - cold, flu, whatever - it's always about four days, then I have a little flare.
