I just bumped up a post on muscle spasms that you should read - good info in there.
I have a similar problem, but it's the muscle in back between my shoulder blade and spine. The muscle is one of the ones that turns my head to the right, and whenever I do so, it jerks and catches and hurts like heck.
I've been taking baclofen, and just went up to four pills a day - things seem better today, but I don't know if it's because the muscle's better, or if it's the medication.
Does this feel like the MS Hug? The hugs can be very bad, they can even break bones.
The only other thing I can think of is pleurisy. That is an inflammation on the outside of the lung. Does it hurt when you breathe?

Hey, I forgot to ask if you have any spinal lesions. I have several in my upper thoracic cord and one in my lower that cause spasms and spasticity.
The muscle that's currently spasming/spastic is right at the level of those upper lesions, and I frequently get spasms around the torso. It seems like I've always got some problem with the line around the torso at the level of those lesions.
You might try a cold pack on the area. I find that it helps the muscle stop spasming.
Thanks ladies.
Jen- Yes I do have several spinal cord lesions. I've been having a numbness that spreads out around my back at the spot of one of my T-spine lesions. It feels different though.
Red- This one doesn't hurt when I breathe. I do have a couple of ribs that stick and make breathing difficult. This one is just super painful to the touch and sometimes when I move.
I am gonna read up on Jen's spasticity post.
