Had LP yesterday

Had my LP yesterday and it was nowhere near as bad as I'd worried it would be - back is a little sore today but the Dr had 3 goes at it and there's hardly a mark there, he talked to me all the time (it took an hour and he said after it had been ''a bit of a challenge'' ), he used loads of local anaesthetic, a new type of very fine needle and it was painless .

I read as many posts and information as i could and followed all the advice and so far i feel fine so a big thank you to everyone.

I defintiely agree the fear of this procedure is worse than the actual and If I ever have to have another one I won't be scared.

I think the caffeine is supposed to come before the LP, and also drink lots and LOTS of water :o)

Glad you did not have any trouble with your LP. I had mine done last week at Mayo; the nurse that did it was awesome (I was scared to death, but desperate enough for an answer to do it anyway :o)

thaks everyone,

I was told the results for the LP (one in particular - is that the o bands?) takes 6-8 weeks at this particular hospital, I see my neurologist  at the beginning of July

I've been fine  but I've heard a few horror stories since I had mine done and I think I've maybe been very lucky.

Can anyone tell me why I would need another one?  He did say even if the result is negative it doesn't mean I don't have MS - will that be a case of keep taking the Gabapentin and wait and see?

Val,
Welcome to the club.  I'm sure the first one is always the worst to prepare for. It is such a scary thought and we have no point of reference for this procedure.

Keep it relatively quiet for another day or two and you should be fine.  Next up is the long wait for the results.  Here's hoping you get them sooner rather than later.

be well, Lulu

I am glad it all went well for you, I think most of the time they are relatively easy.  I have had two, my first one was a piece of cake but my second one was one of the most painful things I have ever experienced, i think I would be anxious now if I had to have another one.

When do you get your results?  I am assuming you are going through the testing process for MS?

All the best, remember to take it easy and keep us posted

Cheers,
Udkas

Good news, Val!

Please take it easy for a few days. I hope you won't develop a headache (6 out of 7 do not), but if you do, read up on the forum or just ask here.

Sending good wishes,
ess
