I am rooting for you!  You CAN do this.  Just take it a moment or an hour at a time.  I'm really proud of your effort!

Good luck with the coffee!

Praying for you!  Chug that water, really fast when you can't stand the urge.  Do jumping jacks or jog in place until you are a little winded.  I promise it helps.  Keep on keepin on.  Also don't forget about nicotine gum; it's an option.  Love to you (and been where you are)  Amy

Just wanted to mention a few other things honey...tell your friends, family, co-workers to please not ask you how the quitting is going!  This is one thing that drove me NUTS!!!  My response to that question came to be..."I was doing fine until you mentioned it and reminded me that I wanted that last darn smoke thank you very much!"

This was something that helped a lot because you are trying to forget that you smoked and you are just waiting that 5 minutes and someone would ask but once I told them to please not ask...it just made things a lot easier.

I think you should let everyone know that you are quitting smoking as well.  If you don't do this you really are not taking it seriously.  If you tell everyone then they are certainly not going to be your allies and they are not going to make it easy for you to slip (and you will slip but just knock it up to experience and don't do it again!).  If you don't tell everyone there will be that someone that smokes that you can go to and sabotage yourself by having a smoke.  bad idea!

But letting everyone know you are quitting along with letting them know that you will tell them how you are doing with it when you are ready is a good place to start.  You will tell them when you have reached a goal you have set for yourself and you can be very proud that you made that goal.  Then just ask them that they please don't ask and that you will come to them and let them know when you have reached your next goal.

You will learn that there are people out there that WILL TRY TO SABOTAGE your efforts and you have to be strong and prove that you are stronger than the weed but you can do it!  You will learn that there are people that are truly interested in your progress and want to help...these people are invaluable and you need them on your side.  You need to find a few non-smokers to spend time with as well...this will help you to realize that you don't need that smoke to pass time...it will pass all on it's own without any nicotine to help you get by.

You can pn me anytime you want if you need some help...I am willing to help anyone quit because it is soooo worth it in the end!  Just think how good you are going to smell for starters!

Lots of Hugs,

Rena

Keep up the good work my dear!  Have you been using the 5 minute rule?  When you get that craving, look at your watch and wait five minutes!  Nine times out of ten something more important than your craving will grab your interest and you will forget about the smoke until the next trigger arrives.  This will not only stop you from smoking but it will let you know what your triggers are and then you can work on doing things differently to avoid those triggers.  I have quit for 9 months and 15 days and I am darn proud of myself!  You can do it by just trying the things that people suggest...some will work, some will not.  I started to embroider wildlife on the guys fishing and hunting vests and hats and such and it kept my hands busy.  Also, walking and breathing in fresh air helps along with drinking water.  You will find that every day it gets easier to breathe and it really amazing how good you feel.

Like I said, keep up the good work and keep bouncing any frustrations off of us...we just might be able to come up with solutions that may help you ok?

Lots of Hugs,

Rena

Coffee is a tough one!
I just could not give up my coffee, but I too really associated it with smoking.  Everyone is different, but I just tried to change my coffee habits.  I used to have my coffee while watching the morning new and...smoking.  Now, I either take my coffee to the puter and read news online, or take it with me to work and drink it in my office.  On the weekend, weather permitting, sometimes I take my coffee and stroll around outside.

As with any other activity you associated with smoking (driving is another big one for some), just try and plan ahead ways to make it easier to do WITHOUT that smoke!

There are some funny ads I've seen on TV about this.  They don't say what the ad is for at first.  In one, there is a guy squatting above a toilet, staring bewilderingly at the toilet paper.  Then a voice comes over saying something like, "you learned how to do it before, you can learn to do it again without smoking."  Crass, but it made me laugh.

Good luck and keep up the great work!  I'm 1 month + and ROOTING FOR YOU!!!
