Power Chair or Scooter, I have to decide?

what do you think... they asked what is it mainly for.. I said to get out of the house, stores, restaurants, mall, appt, etc....all close by home.  not too far... I was told a scooter would be better for carrying packages, and maybe a easier ride.  

But I'm worried about not getting into stores or getting stuck in the store and not able to get out.... can I leave a scooter outside a store and go in without an alarm or tied up??

what if the isles are not wide enough for a scooter,... would a Power chair be more manourable??  I know there isn't much to carry package on with a Power Chair.. and are they really not comfortable??  the bigger wheel ones look like they have suspension on them?

the Occupation Therapist is coming monday to talk about this, but I wonder what any of you have to say about this?

The scooters are very maneuverable, but not as much as the power chairs.  I think, for the long run, the power chair would be the more useful, especially in close quarters.  You might also contact a rehab center and ask to speak with a mobility specialist.  they would know the pros and cons of each.

Hi wobbly,
you are faced with a touch choice here.  I am ambulatory and use no aids at this point so I can only go on what I have learned from others.  

Of the many MS patients I have met around here through meetings, work and other events, I can only think of one who uses a scooter regularly.  She works in the lobby of one of our buildings and the spaces she must maneuver are wide hallways.  I don't know what she uses at home.  Everyone else I picture uses electric wheelchairs.

You might want to drop DJ a note and ask her about the power chair.  She uses one to get around all over town.  She goes to the store, doctors and every place else using her chair.  She encounters some problems,  and it is slow going at times, but it does get her around.

I trust your OT will have more insight to share with you on Monday.
