Neuro from Rochester wants to do EPT and new EEG

I did not get many answers on my appt. at the Rochester Clinic. However, he wants to do an Evoked potential test and a new EEG test.  Are these the last steps to help with a diagnosis. He did mention MS but he said there are other things that it could be, but he did not get into it. I did tell him how I have had every test under the sun and all have been ruled out.

He sent me for bloodwork, and I am due to go back after my surgery for these tests.

I am still wondering if these intention tremors I have are part of a flare. I cannot point my finger without it shaking all over the place.

Hi Shell, He didnt' do a full neuro exam, but when he saw the tremor coming from the left hand when pointing my finger, he told me to hop up onto the table and he started to do the EMG test on my arms right then and there. OW!! LOL

He said something about central sensetation ( I forgot what he said) .

My Evoked potential test is scheduled for Feb. 23 and then I go back on the 25th for the results.

I can't help but think that I will still not have a clear answer. I almost want to give up on finding answers, however, this tremor that I have is making me realize once again that something is not right.

I think I have been going through a flare. It's been pretty much a month and I have had this constant twitch in my shoulder area for the same amount of time, very annoying.

JJ, thanks for explaining your symptoms. All of my twitching , itching , tremors and buzzing are on the left side.

Hugs,
Pam

Pam, I have tremors and other symptoms. With this one, my right eye was twitching for most of the month. Then there was the blurred vision, and other eye felt dead and numb. It was also a little droopier than the right. I have some myoclonus, buzzing sensations, icy/hot, occasional spasticity - yeah - there's more going on than just tremors. And it all gets worse when the fever is running, then tapers off slowly if my temp comes back down to normal.

Hi Pam,

Sorry you didn't get many answers either, but does sound as if the doc is rounding off the other testing to draw his/her own conclusions. How was the physical? Did the doc see and comment on the tremors?

Carol,   LOL, I wish I "WAS" the MS specialist too!! That was funny. I know I need to be patient and go through these tests again, but its because I  HAVE  to "Go through ALL these tests again"!!

JJ,  Do you have just tremors with your flares or do you have other things as well?, so far I have had tremors in left hand, and twitching in left shoulder blade for 3 - 4 weeks. Oh yeah and ITCHING,, upper  inner thighs and top of left hand.

Mary,  I probably shouldn't have shortened it in the title!! LOL I didn't even realize that until you said it.

Thanks everyone, I just came back from pre- op testing for my orbital implant and sinus surgery. The doc. that I saw today was a resident doc. that is going to be assisting in my surgery. He became suspicious of "optic neuritis" after doing my eye exam. I,  at that point,  had to go into the whole "ischemic optic neuropathy" dx. that was given 3 yrs ago.

He suggested that I do not have the Evoked Potential Testing done until the end of Feb. because he wants to make sure I get plenty of rest and proper healing time. I agree.

I hope this test is the last, and this surgery is the last too.
Extremely tired!!

Hugs to all of you,
Pamela

Sorry - meant to write "I thought you may have a different experience if you SAW the "ms " expert '- (although I think many of us DO feel like we "was" the MS expert - even though we don't really want to know ANYTHING about this stupid disease!

Hi Pam,

Sorry you didn't get more answers from the neuro in Rochester, but keep in mind that even though you want answers and have been dealing with these things for such a long time - this is the first time they have seen you so they need to spend time getting to know you - testing etc.  My impession with Rochester was that they are VERY comprehensive, and if you aren't very clearly "MS" they are going to looking for all other possibilities. I thought you may have a different experience if you was the "MS" expert.

I had evoked potentials ordered by the neuro in Rochester.  They were negative (I had auditory and somatosensory.)  If they had been positive, they would have helped with the dx, but since they were negative, that still doesn't mean I don't have MS.  So they can help if they are positive.

Good luck and I wish that finger would calm down~
